Suggestions for avoiding 'blighted ovum'?

Hi all,

Just as the title suggests. Had a MC (MMC?) in June at 7 weeks but there was no gestational sac found on the scan. Then on Friday had a scan at 9+2 and they only found an empty gestational sac. Now having to wait 10 days, till 19th, for another scan to 'confirm' MMC and get treatment.

Does anyone have any suggestions on avoiding this? I've read that some people take aspirin but I'm not sure what it helps with and if it would be applicable in my case? Pre conception vitamins? Anything anyone can suggest. 2 losses in such a short time has really thrown me for a loop.

So sorry for your losses. Anembryonic pregnancies are typically due to chromosome factors. So its nothing you did but that also means nothing you can do.

Aspirin is indicated for pregnancies failing due to clotting disorders. This is not related to anembryonic pregnancy.

In terms of prenatal vitamins- you should take folic acid and vitamin D

Thanks for your reply. I've been taking vitamin D and folic acid since April when we first started ttc.

I know it's wishful thinking to think that there's something I can do to prevent this happening again, it's just so heartbreaking to have 2 in such a short time 😔.

I'm still waiting on management for MMC and wondering if it's worth trying to get them to do a D&C and sending of a sample to see if they can identify and particular reason for it happening. Probably unlikely as it's only my second MC 😕

@hewegoagain I'm so sorry for your losses. I have had 1mc and 1mmc this year so I understand the pain and frustration.

I'm not sure specifically what can help blighted ovum but if it is chromosome factors then I've heard coq10 can help with egg quality.

I'm not sure what is causing my miscarriages but I'm currently taking folic acid, vitamin d, coq10. I would also probably take aspirin if I get a BFP next even though ive not been advised (I've had blood clots before). I also have a consultation with a consultant tomorrow about having a test for high nk cells. I think I felt like I wanted to do something to help prevent another miscarriage without having to wait until a third one and being eligible for nhs testing. Probably be a waste of time but least I can rule one thing out.

I hope you get your rainbow baby soon and in the meantime, take care of yourself

@chasingtherainbow1 thanks for your comments. I bought myself some Coq10 this morning. Do you know how much I should be taking? The capsules are 500mg and it says 1 or 2 a day on the bottle, although I live in Spain and our doseages on a lot of stuff is a lot higher than in the UK. On that note I also know that aspirin needs to be s low dose as well, but how much? The lowest I can find here are 250mg 🤦🏼‍♀️ I imagine that that's too high.

Once I'm done miscarrying I'm going to sort out some private health insurance and see if they'll some testing do I don't have to wait for the health service 3MC limit 😬

I think I've seen you over on the TTC after MC? So I'll probably see you around 💐
