Hi everyone I'm new here..but felt I needed some guidance ..
I am 37 years old, and have been trying to conceive for 4 months now, the last 2 months I have used the ovulation sticks, so had had sex days leading up to and on the lh surge etc..so on the most fertile days.
I sadly had an abortion 7 years ago which was a very hard time but I couldn't go through as he was an abusive man.
The man I am with now I would love a baby with we both do but now it's not happening and it's really hard to cope with as when i got pregnant before 7 years ago it was straight away the first month.
I'm older and sadly have to take that into account.. the man I'm with is quite a bit older than me late 50s. He has 2 older children.
I am now fretting...as it isn't happening
I'm healthy and an average weight the man I'm with hes fit and not overweight, fairly healthy smokes sometimes, no drink
Thank you in advance for your help

@Lusky76

TTC is tricky, and nobody ever prepares you for that.
I fell pregnant as a teenager but miscarried and never fell again. I'm now in my late 20s and my husband & I are finally in a position where we can have kids & it's been a process. We're now 7 months in & still struggling.
I use OPKs & I take my BBT but unfortunately, I have really irregular periods and I'm struggling to pin point when ovulation is, I'm currently waiting on my test results from recent blood tests.

Are you using any apps to track your cycles?

Hey @Lianna93 I'm in a similar position to you. I fell pregnant in my early 20s but terminated as I wasn't in a position to carry to term.
I now track with OPKs but my cycles have become irregular so really hard to know if I even ovulate certain months.
I get the results back for my bloods on Wednesday w

Lianna93 · 11/10/2021 12:33

@Lusky76
It's brutal being irregular, I always knew I was irregular but never realised how bad I am until I started ttc. I'm typically always over 32 days for a cycle but last month, I was 26 days which completely threw me off and meant I completely missed my ovulation window which made me realise I should definitely get checked.
Hopefully we both get some answers from our test results 🤞🏻

ttcbabya · 11/10/2021 14:25

@Lianna93 omg of course that's going to throw it off! And it gets too expensive to begin testing earlier just to cover all bases!
I hope our results give us the answers we need. -'d hopefully a BFP after that xx

I'm so confused now because I use OPKs and I've managed to catch in both cycles but my LP is so long now as I'm still waiting for AF (getting BFNs). I thought LP was always meant to stay the same length...

Lusky76 · 11/10/2021 15:21

Hello and thank you Lianna93. I haven't tried the apps but I get very regular periods and twice in a row the lh surge was both on day 12. I'm getting very down about it 😕😪

Last time had sex on lh surge day ,day after and 3 days before it I read that it's good to try days leading up to lh surge so did that but still not pregnant. So frustrating when now I want to be so much but 7 years ago it happened straight away and I couldn't go through

It's really tough isn't it. Especially when you know your body is capable of doing it! So it's like just do it again!!!!! Hormonal changes can make it more difficult especially with age and time so worth chatting to your GP about it
Lianna93 · 11/10/2021 15:51

@ttcbabya I honestly have no idea about LP, I'm still in the process of learning all about it all.

@Lusky76 I use Ovia as my main app but I always cross reference with other apps & so far for this month, Ovia & my other app & ovulation calculators are all predicting tomorrow as my day of ovulation 🤞🏻
They say typically, CD14 for ovulation but unless you're on a 28 day consistent cycle, that's not gonna be true. Tomorrow is CD18 for me & that's when I'm predicted to ovulate 🤷🏻‍♀️

I track BBT as well, but I'm still learning about that.

I'd definitely recommend seeing your GP though, I went to mine last week & they're already running tests to see why I'm struggling to conceive - it's always worth speaking to them :)

happyviolet · 11/10/2021 15:54

I'd see your GP asap and get the ball rolling on any barriers to it. I also found that using (sorry for graphic nature of this) but lube that encouraged sperm to swim (preseed is the brand I went with) was the month that we got lucky!

I also did temperature tracking, acupunture and supplements to regulate my cycle.

Lusky76 · 11/10/2021 15:59

Hello ttcbabya yes it is exactly like that! It's a comfort to know I'm not alone, I'm sorry to hear your story and wishing you all the best
I am worried my age is against me
But I hear of friend older than me it happening 😥

You're definitely not alone! Ofc there are older people it happens for - honestly, reach out to your GP. Over 35 they expect to see you sooner too. Good luck xx

If I'm not pregnant this cycle, I'm taking a cycle break and then will give preseed a try!

Wondering if possibility could be my partner with him being alot older ? It's Just so sad when you've timed it exactly right and get regular periods ...happened when I didn't want it to and now it won't! Thank you all for you advice its so comforting xxc

Lianna93 · 11/10/2021 19:47

@Lusky76 Men don't typically need to worry about their age when it comes to conceiving... I mean, look at Mick Jagger 😳
However, it couldn't hurt to have your partner go for tests to check what his sperm count it 🤷🏻‍♀️
That'll likely be our next steps if my tests all come back clear.

Try not to worry too much, because stress & worry can knock everything out of balance & can be the reason for you not conceiving - which I know, is so much easier said than done.

I hope it works out for and for us all 🥰

ttcbabya · 11/10/2021 19:51

TheDaydreamBelievers · 11/10/2021 22:30

I understand how stressful it is but 4 cycles isnt a lot, its totally normal to take up to a year to conceive. Your cycles are regular, you are ovulating (or certainly your bloods suggest you are). If you get to >6mo you can get tests as you are over 35yrs.

Definitely important to have sex leading up to ovulation. Aim for every 2nd day throughout fertile period (CD 9-20).
