Hello

First thread on here. Looking for anyone who has been in a similar situation before. We have been TTC for 2 years now, Iam 32 and husband 33.

No luck, I have had the blood tests to check progesterone levels etc and ovulation which were all ok and husband is having sperm analysis on the 11th and I’m so scared that the problem may be his sperm.

He had undescended testicles on both sides as a child and this wasn’t rectified until he was 6/8 years old he can’t remember exactly.

Obviously I have been researching everything I can find and the results have been so concerning so now I’m almost certain something is wrong. Mainly because it wasn’t rectified until so late.
And worried that this will be the end of our journey to becoming parents, before it’s even begun.

Has anyone conceived when their partner had both testicles undecended and not rectified u til really late. I would love some hope right now.

Thankyou In advance.

Xxx

I can understand why you are worried, OP, but try not to meet trouble halfway. Your DH hasn’t even had the results of sperm analysis yet.
It is true that the longer a testis is left undescended, the poorer the outcome in terms of fertility, as it is too warm inside the body cavity for optimal spermatogenesis. But firstly, your DH can’t remember what age he had his orchidopexies performed, and secondly it sounds like both testes were successfully relocated to the scrotum, improving his chances.
Even if his sperm count is found to be low, as long as it isn’t actually zero, he may be a suitable candidate for ICSI (intra cytoplasmic sperm injection), where a single sperm is harvested and directly injected into your egg.
And - worse case scenario - if he is aspermic, there is always the possibility of sperm donation, where the child would be biologically yours but not his.
I would just try to ignore the whole thing and keep busy and distracted until some actual results are available. Otherwise you are just fretting in a vacuum. Good luck!

Thankyou, for your response.
you are completely right it’s just so hard not to worry.

Iam starting my new job as a paramedic tomorrow so am hoping that I will be so busy I won’t have time to worry, which will help. It’s just so down heartening that it wasn’t corrected more quickly, if he is azoospermic he would never want to go for sperm donations , But potentially he would adopt so that is an option. Kids were never high on his agenda until 2 years ago when he completely surprised me when he told me he wanted to start trying!

I will update the post when I get his results as fingers crossed will help someone else in a similar situation one way or another.

My husband had one undescended testicle that somehow no one noticed until he was 6 (how his parents didn't see I don't know - drives me crazy thinking about it). He didn't have an operation to fix it until he was nearly 7. His fertility has been fine. I wish you all the best OP.

Thankyou for your replies, and I agree Albgo how they didn’t realise and do something is completely beyond me!!!
as promised an update, results from semen analysis are in. He unfortunately has bad motility and bad morphology so from what I have read that means they are slow and Mis-shapen. Apparently count is ok. He had video consultation with doctor and I was at work so I didn’t get to speak to them. But they said they will refer him to specialist straight away. I’m going to ask him to get doctors to send through the details results so I can look into it in more detail.

I’m quite relieved in some ways as I was so worried he wouldn’t have any sperm. If there is sperm there is a chance!!!!
