AF Late Negative Test - Waiting Thread

Hey all,

I just want to vent anxiously here because I am going out my mind. I came off the pill in January 2021 and after 3 irregular cycles settles into a 29 day cycle. We only started actually trying for a baby this cycle and DTD on cycle days 12, 14, 15 and 21. I had a random one day bleed on day 22 (bright red, lasted a few hours then stopped).

AF is now at least 4 days late and I'm on CD35. First response early test was BFN this morning though.

I just feel confused and frustrated. At this point I just want AF to arrive to I can get on with the next cycle of trying.

You don't track your ovulation then I take it, correct? I know it's frustrating not knowing why you're late, but maybe you aren't really late (yet) and you ovulated later than usual.

Did you do anything differently this month? New vitamins, did you get the Covid jab?

We only just started trying so I haven't been tracking ovulation with any formal method. I notice when I am getting fertile CM and have been judging by that so far. But we only actively started trying this cycle. I was hoping to be able to avoid deep diving into tracking and try to let it happen "naturally" but I am rapidly moving down the tracking path (already ordered the test strips).

Yes there are a few things it could be:

I have been taking the conception vitamins for months now, but admittedly bad at taking them consistently. This month I took them every day properly, and I know there is scientific evidence to show taking these vitamins can lengthen your cycle.
Its possible I ovulated late. I thought I was possibly getting fertile CM much later this month. Can't be sure obviously. So AF could just be delayed compared to normal.
That one day bleed I had was a weird early and short period (I don't think this is likely).
Its unlikely but not impossible I am pregnant. Its possible we conceived on cycle day 21 and implanatation was up to 12 days later, and Hcg could easily not show yet in that case. I think that is wishful thinking but its not completely impossible.

I am just venting here whilst I wait impatiently to see whats going on.

Been there, done that. The let's see what happens route didn't end well with me either :) I actually found tracking more relaxing for me, as weird as it sounds. At least now I know if or when I'm late.

When I started reading your post I thought that odd bleeding could have been implantation bleeding but that's not possible, you'd get a blasting positive by now. So I think you probably ovulated later than you thought. I don't think the one day bleed would be an early and short period either. Maybe you had a cyst that burst? Did you have any pain?

Nope no pain at all. The bleed was bright red and a decent amount of blood, but it only appeared when I had a bowel movement. Just really strange.

I am still waiting for AF. I keep thinking it is going to start because for 3 days now I am having extremely light pink discharge. At this point I am getting scared about the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy.

@emily279 I had an ectopic in June. You'll get a positive by now, ectopic or not.

I've been trying for 6 months, always regular 29 days and ovulate on day 15. However this month I'm now 2 days late, still negative tests but think i ovulated on day 23 instead. On Thursday I had a pink discharge and some cramps followed by no period and now I'm wondering if that was implantation. I am 9dpo if that's the case. It's all so confusing isn't it. I just want to know either way. Like you say either AF just come so we can crack on with another cycle or get a bfp.

Yes the waiting is awful. I am now 6 days late but negative first response this morning. Just getting a tiny amount of pink discharge each day for the past 3 days but then nothing. Just seems so strange

I tentatively think I might finally be out. The very light pink spotting is turning bright red (when I had a BM …sorry for the TMI!) and I’m feeling very crampy and bloated now. I think the most likely explanation for me is that I started taking the conception vitamins properly every single day this month and it’s scientifically proven these can lengthen your cycle. I was taking them really sporadically before. Just a very strange cycle because I don’t normally have all this spotting and stuff, I just come straight on normally! I’ve now got a thermometer and ovulation strips at the ready for next cycle because this caused so much anxiety I decided I really need to know when I ovulated!

AF didn’t come. Just still getting this minuscule amount of pink discharge. It’s not even enough to spot in my underwear. Been going on for 4-5 days now. Another BFN this morning. My AF never starts like this and it’s never been this late. I’m so confused.

I really hoped so but the last time we DTD was CD22 and I’m now CD38 and still BFN so sadly I think it’s pretty much impossible. Plus the tiny amount of bleeding has been going on for 5 days now. I think it’s more likely that I ovulated very late and am not pregnant, or I didn’t ovulate at all this cycle. Just want AF to come so I can carry on trying :(. I am definitely tracking ovulation after this!!!

It seems to have finally arrived for me too. I am so relieved. All the very light spotting the past few days just seems to be the worlds slowest arrival of AF! But each day its very steadily getting heavier. So strange! Normally it pretty much just starts on one day. It was a very odd cycle for me - I think it was possibly a cycle where I didn't ovulate. Good luck on your journey. To anyone reading this and going through the same thing - I really recommend you try not to repeatedly test every day only to get negatives (expensive waste of time!) and just wait it out/don't worry.
