Hi there,

I'm in my 11th cycle of TTC #1 and I'm trying to have a different mindset.

Recently I've been really down about how long it's taking, even though I know it can take a while for some!

We've not had any fertility tests yet, but have tried OPKS, temping, tracking CM, pre seed, changed our diet etc with no success yet.

I've just finished AF and on the look out for ovulation, but trying to be mindful of how lucky we are already and believing that a BPF is just around the corner. I just wondered what other people's experiences were just before they got their BFP? X

I stopped trying, it sounds harsh but its true and Ive had a few friends who did the same and got pregnant. There is such a thing as trying too hard.

BrilliantBetty · 28/09/2021 07:49

Went to the GP after 11 cycles who sent me for blood test. Turned out my iron was v low. Coincidentally or not once I started eating meat (for the iron) I caught.

I had been taking low level iron supplement the whole time as well but for what ever reason it doesn't work well for me.

So, eating meat.

I guess it was also partly the reassurance from the GP that this is 'normal' and there's no reason as yet why it wouldn't happen. I was 28. My now almost 2 year old is perfect Smile good luck

@bigknickersbigknockers @BrilliantBetty thanks for your input ladies!

I think you've got a point about trying too hard. I think because I've tried really hard from the start without success, it's then brought my mood down because nothings happened after all that effort. So I'm definitely going to try less... but efficiently less haha

That's interesting about your iron levels. I don't really eat a lot of meat, but have recently started keto so my intake of meat has gone up. I started it because I wanted to loose some weight but also I heard carbs/sugar can affect your blood sugar levels and mess up your hormones. But iron levels isn't something I'd thought about before. Thanks for the insight!

I have fibroids which cause me a lot of pain. I went to accupuncture for that and fertility and fell within 3 months. Prior to that I had been trying on and off for 4 years (with 2 early miscarriages). Hope you get you BFP soon!

VeryBerry22 · 28/09/2021 09:16

My advice - contact your GP, tell them you’ve been trying for a year, and get the ball rolling on tests. If something is the matter then you want to get it addressed sooner rather than later.

Royalgalas · 28/09/2021 09:21

I'd second heading to the GP - can't do any harm!

We got lucky the cycle that we used the SMEP method and I started taking agnus castus (I have very short cycles and a short luteal phase). We weren't trying for very long - five months or so - and I have no way of really knowing the extent to which these two things made a difference, but I'm convinced that they did.

Good luck!

boxinell · 28/09/2021 15:08

I ate grapefruit and drank grapefruit juice in the month or two before I got pregnant. Pretty sure it was during the follicular phase. The only thing I really did different. Oh, and I ate pineapples!

Charl881 · 28/09/2021 21:22

Got drunk on holiday in Italy! 😂

In all seriousness we were on our 13th cycle of trying. Didn’t take any OPKs that month and tried not to really plan when we were DTD, just enjoyed the holiday and I think the relaxing helped. Not sure about the wine and limoncello!

Chica1990 · 29/09/2021 05:36

I was definitely trying very hard. We DTD every day (rather than every other day) for a week over my fertile period, used ferti-Lily and I had started my ova insitol tablets.

I had also been going to acupuncture for a couple of months in the lead up. Good luck! You will get there.

DobieGrayshark · 29/09/2021 06:47

Stopped trying and went on holiday where we were totally relaxed. Finally happened.

Frandler · 29/09/2021 07:01

I really appreciate all the stories! And it's so nice to hear that people have gotten their BFP eventually. Definitely giving me extra hope 🤞

A couple of you had mentioned about acupuncture. Was it specifically fertility acupuncture? I don't know anything about it!

Oh good luck OP! Hope you get your BFP soon. Just to echo what others have said, stopping trying so hard made the difference for me. After two years of recurrent miscarriages and chemical pregnancies we both agreed we'd stop trying. Neither of us could take anymore disappointment.

So we threw in the towel and bought a puppy instead, and while we were waiting for him to arrive we went away on holiday somewhere hot and sandy and just had fun - ate what I want, drank a ton etc. Don't know whether it was the joy of looking after a cute dog when I got back or the holiday itself, but I got pregnant (and this one stuck around) shortly after. Also, thinking back I had quite a stressful job at the time too, so maybe on the holiday I was just more relaxed generally.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 30/09/2021 17:44

Ate pineapple core following ovulation.

Give it a Google if you're interested but it's really cheap & easy to try!

SheABitSpicyToday · 30/09/2021 17:46

Started taking myo inositol powder, got my bfp the next cycle.

Twixxed · 30/09/2021 17:49

Having sex every day during the fertile period instead of every other day through the whole month. Also both positives came straight after very early miscarriages - aware there's not much you can do with that information though!

RecordPlayer · 30/09/2021 17:53

Hot water bottle on my tummy in the TWW, cycle 10. Doubt it made any actual difference but it's the only thing I hadn't done in previous cycles (I tried the opks, grapefruit juice, seed cycling etc etc...)

sillysmiles · 30/09/2021 17:56

After 11 months, go for blood tests.

aLifetimeAgo · 30/09/2021 19:04

Following with interest!
I don't have stress (live in a holiday-vibe place), dtd every day during ovulation week, still nothing Sad
Take all the mentioned vitamins already.
Really need to get onto this pineapple/grapefruit wagon

2021babie · 30/09/2021 19:20

Aw it's so hard when you're waiting for your BFP but I swear it will be just around the corner and will catch you by surprise one day. I was doing everything and more, all the tracking, the sex, the pressed, he pineapple, the vitamins, gentle exercise healthy diet no alcohol, no caffeine etc etc, basically driving myself mad 😂 Few extra things on the months I conceived...

First pregnancy I had a fertility massage and a couple of sessions of fertility acupuncture just before ovulation

Second pregnancy I did so many things different that month it would be hard to say which is was (if any) that helped but I had one session of reflexology, I had a laparoscopy to remove endo and my tubes flushed, I had fertility acupuncture before and after ovulation and also took prescribed Chinese herbs, I also had a completely different positive mindset, had just got back from a relaxing holiday, been offered a new job I wanted, was writing in a gratitude journal and really looking at things n my life differently... had accepted it could be a really long time before I got my BFP so just needed to crack on with life, and then got it a few days later!

Also both months I've conceived I have made sure to have sex twice on the day before ovulation and the day of. There is some research to show that extremely fresh sperm (in those with no sperm issues) can lead to better outcomes in IVF so we had sex then sex again within the hour as per the research. Can't harm if you're up for it and no sperm issues but don't put pressure on yourself !!

Good luck and when you have your BFP you could come back and tell us what did it that month for you, I'm sure it won't be long x

luckyJasmin · 03/10/2021 09:17

@2021babie what an encouraging post Smile

What is the tube flushing procedure? Sometimes I think my tubes must be blocked as I'm ovulating and dtd a lot but the sperm is just meeting the egg Grin

AllyCat31 · 03/10/2021 14:09

Took 4 cycles to get BFP (currently 8weeks)
All we did differently that cycle was I’d started take chaste Berry (already was taking TTC vitamins, vitamin e, vitamin c and soy cd3-7) and then we did one extra DTD later than normal cause my OH was in the mood. Turns out I ovulated 4 days later than I thought so it was definitely that later time which did it! Good luck

Shmithecat2 · 03/10/2021 14:12

I didn't do anything deliberately differently, but a couple of weeks before I got my BFP, I hadn't eaten any dairy (was in a country on holiday where its not really eaten). No idea if it made a difference or not. Not that I was doing much to start with. I just had a basic period app telling me when to have sex. That was it.
