ovulation test or temping - which should I trust?

Hi everyone, trying to work out if I should test.

My solid smiley on clear blue digital was on 13 Sep so day 17. But I didn’t have EWCM till the following week and temping says I actually ovulated on 20 Sep, so day 24. Just don’t know which to trust?

Can’t find much online about getting positive OPK but then not ovulating till a week later. Would love any thoughts.

According to temping I’m 6 dpo now. This is only my second month of OPK, up till now I’ve only temped but wasn’t sure how accurate it was so now I’m confused! Thanks so much in advance x

Could you post your chart? I’d probably trust the temp. Your body may have geared up for ovulation on day 17 then failed for some reason and tried again.

Thank you hedgehog! Sadly I’m new so I’m not allowed to post photos for 48 hours I think. There’s a steady temp rise except for a dip on day 21 and a smaller dip on day 24.

That makes sense about gearing up for ovulation because EWCM and temping both add up to the same ovulation date.

This happened to me this month and I ovulated the later time. I kept testing with opks after the first peak and had a second peak that matches with my temp rise. Looks like my body had two cracks of the whip and ovulated the second time. I'd think you ovulated on the 20th, but I'm no expert!

I'd love to see the chart when you can.

On one hand it's not unusual to have a positive opk and not ovulate, as an LH surge only indicates that your body tried to, not that it did.

However it's also not uncommon to get some ewcm somewhere between 6-9dpo due to a secondary surge so I wouldn't assume the ewcm was ovulation related if there's a chance you could be mid tww.

What chart app are you using btw, fertility friend should be fairly accurate for you.

Sorry that should say secondary oestrogen* surge.

Thank you @LadyoftheWoods that’s really helpful. I didn’t think to test again. I do tend to find my EWCM is pretty accurate too and that didn’t happen at all around the positive OPK.

@Juno231ah I didn’t know about the second EWCM surge! Learning so much already, thank you! I’m using natural cycles. I’ll post my chart when I can.
