Fertility Testing

Just wondering if anyone did any form of fertility / compatibility test before TTC? I know that in the USA it's common to pay for testing to see how compatible your egg will be with your partners sperm. My husband and I want to start TTC in about a year, but it would be great to find out if we might struggle so we could start earlier. I've seen lots of ads for fertility testing but would love to know any personal experiences and if they were accurate. My period is very regular and consistent and I've only ever been on non-hormonal birth control. I'm 27! Thanks in advance

In the UK you only really look into these things after you've been trying for a year, unless you have known issues already.

Odds are you're going to be absolutely fine. I'd perhaps start looking into it at the 6 month mark just to ease my fears.

FWIW I don't think there is such a test to see egg/sperm compatibility. Fertility testing is usually all about whether you ovulate, your egg reserves and any indicators for early menopause, that kind of thing. If you do decide to do testing - remember to get an analysis of your OH's swimmers as he's almost just as likely to have issues as you would.

@Juno231 thank you for this information! Will definitely both get tested if we run into problems :)

I am not sure how things are in UK, but can't you ask your obgyn to give you some prenatal tests privately?

Remember the US is a private health system. There's lots you can pay for because it makes the doctors doing the tests money.

Try not to over think this. Enjoy being just the two of you and cross any testing bridges when you come to them.

For context, each month you have a 20% chance of conception. Around 80% of healthy couples will conceive within a year of trying.
