Folic acid - alcohol?

Hi all,

Hoping to get your advice. Smile
We want to start ttc in November. I'm on folic acid and vitamin d at the moment. I read that alcohol can interfere with how folic acid absorbs into the body. I usually have a few drinks over the weekend - not enough to get drunk though. Is it best I stop drinking altogether now, or just carry on as usual? I was going to stop drinking alcohol next month anyway, but I hadn't realised it can affect folic acid absorption in the meantime.

Thank you!
Smile

TTC is difficult enough without missing out on those luxuries we enjoy and relax us. Enjoy your drinks within reason and be you Smile

I’m 29 weeks pregnant and in a bar the other week the bar staff caught me longingly looking at a glass of red wine. Pregnancy is long enough without stopping drinking whilst TTC. And that’s assume you fall pregnant straight away.

I gave up alcohol 3 months before ttc but it's not necessary to be that strict. It just felt right for me and I wanted to be as healthy as possible. It's a personal decision.

Carry on as normal, you don’t know how long it’ll take to TTC and there really isn’t much benefit unless you’re a heavy drinker.

The embryo doesn’t start taking nutrients from your body for a little while anyway. Have a look at early embryo development.
