LH surge & ovulation cramps

Hi ladies,

Just need some insight…. first time doing ovulation strips.

Me and DH DTD last night. Since 9am I have had awful ovulation pains on one side and at 2pm two lines on the ovulation sticks are the same colour. When is it likely the egg will be released? Or is it possible it’s already been released even though the test is saying LH surge?

Thank you xx

The egg is released 12-36 hours after the LH surge.

I'd not put too much weight on ovulation pain though - it doesn't necessarily strictly correlate to ovulation and can merely be follicles rubbing etc. The times I've had ultrasounds they showed me I ovulated from the opposite side of where I'd had "ovulation pain" that cycle. So I'd trust the LH surge over that!

Thanks @juno231! On my app is says I’m due to ovulate today so I thought the pains could be due to the egg releasing but maybe not….. maybe my app is 1/2 days out if I go by the LH surge Smile

The app will be guessing based on standard algorithms - definitely trust ovulation sticks over an app. The app will at most know the length of your cycle but unless you track in other ways it won't have a clue when you ovulate or how long your luteal phase is :)

Thanks Juno! We’ll keep at it then haha, will the LH line fade once egg has released?

@Jessx90 it will fade after the surge yes - for some people that peak reading could last a couple of days, for others it starts fading the same day. It's not related to when the egg is released though - that has that random 12-36h timeline from the first peak reading.

It's all very confusing and convoluted but I hope that makes sense!

So DTD again tomorrow and the day after if you can - just to be on the safe side

Understood! Thanks for your help, this lark isn’t as straight forward as you think is it haha
