Underactive thyroid and recurrent miscarriage

Have just found out that my level of TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is high, which means my thyroid is underactive. Having had 3 m/c and now problems conceiving I am hoping I have now found the possible cause (because treatment is simple and effective). Has anyone else experienced this?

I have an underactive thyroid but I have no idea what my TSH levels are. I have a DS and may of had a MC ages ago but not sure might have just been an unusually very painful and heavy AF. You shouldnt have any trouble TTC as long as you're on the right dose of thyroxine

Not sure if that helps

Thanks fruitloop . My fsh level is 7.8 (range is up to 3)but T4 is normal. I am worried they will say I don't need thyroxine cos the t4 is normal. Trying to gather as much evidence as possible before seeing the doctor on thursday.

No personal experience but a friend had >6 miscarriages due to untreated hypothyroidism

If you don't get any immediate joy from your GP you could ask for a referral to an endocrinologist

TheBlonde · 03/12/2007 16:32

Have you already asked for a referral to investigate the recurrent m/c?

scorpio1 · 03/12/2007 16:33

Didn't MrsMcjnr have this?

find her in 'sweepstake...greedy or honey next' in pregnancy.

Yes I was seen twice at a clinic and discharged - nothing found. They checked the uterus and ran clotting and chromosome bloods. Still waiting for the latter but doubt they will show anything.

Hi Scorpio, I think Mrs McJ has APA which is a clotting disorder.

i have ds and developed my thyroid problem after having ds.
my body was so low i stopped completly and now i am not ovulating at all . i am only 23 and feel very annoyed at all this. the doc says it will fix itself but i dont think it will.
dont even feel like a women now!!!!!!!!
also read things to suggest that you are at higher risk of mc and birth defects!!!

ladylush · 11/12/2007 18:51

Had chromosome bloods results back - all normal. No surprise there. Looks like I had to do my own investigations Hope it doesn't take too long for tsh levels to get down to normal range.
