SA results are not good - what now?

Just rang the GP and they said the results are that his SA is abnormal but now we have to wait one week for a GP phone appointment to discuss why.
This is absolutely not what we were expecting and another week feels like forever.

What happens now?
I'm guessing either his count is low or motility is poor. What are our options for conceiving with poor sperm?

Is this his first sample? I think normally they'll take another SA to make sure it's not just an odd one for whatever reason.

Depending on what's wrong, supplements like proxeed can be taken to improve the sample (I've seen quite a few couples on here with MFI take it and significantly improve their results). You could start taking this ASAP and bear in mind it take 3 months for samples to improve.

Next steps would most likely be the GP referring you to a fertility clinic where they'll repeat the SA. If still poor you'll be diagnosed with MFI and referred for IVF (potentially with ICSI). This could all take a few months depending on referral timelines in your local area so expect some down time in between meetings - so get on those male supplements and lifestyle changes!

So in terms of options - it might be fairly difficult to conceive naturally with MFI but once you get to IVF territory you shouldn't have any problems. If you have a low count, slow swimmers or whatever they'll just use ICSI to bypass those problems and inject selected good swimmers directly into the egg.

It's his 1st sample so it's still early days.
We would have to go privately because I have a 16yo from previous relationship.
It's so frustrating that we have to wait yet another week for the actual results.
