Miscarriage - is this normal?

Hi all - would love some advice on whether my current miscarriage experience sounds normal/to be expected. Had a missed MC around six weeks, it’s three weeks later. Had light bleeding since Sunday, bad but manageable cramps today and passed what I assume was the sac (quite large liver looking like thing!). Have had quite horrific cramps since, on par with labour (have one child), been going for approx four hours now and increasing amounts of blood. Is this normal or should I be feeling better post the sac being out? Quite hard to find helpful online info! TIA!

Standard advice is to seek medical help if you are filling a pad in an hour. I would also phone the epu if the pain was unmanageable with paracetamol. Sorry for your loss. Hope you feel better soon.

It might be worth getting checked out, there could be retained tissue. Probably not, but better safe than sorry x

Thank you both for taking the time to respond. Cramps getting a bit better now, pads still filling borderline too fast. Will monitor a bit more and go in if not reasonably improved in a while. X

Please go into the EPU if you are concerned!

I had a MMC and had at least 7 episodes of heavy bleeding, clots etc accompanied by contractions/cramps over 3 weeks. I had bleeding throughout as well. I rang the EPU a number of times and their answer was always that if I couldn't 'cope ' with the pain I needed to go to A&E. They completely dismissed my concerns that something wasn't right. After 4 weeks I had a scan - 'Oh you'll have nothing left after all that bleeding'. Funnily enough I hadn't passed everything and needed an ERPC. Then the consultant decided that I needed 2 blood transfusions because I was so severely anaemic from the amount of blood I had lost. I ended up being off work for 8 weeks in total and was really ill.

I really hope this doesn't happen to you or anybody else. A miscarriage is bad enough without complications! I just wanted to post in case my experience helps somebody to demand help for earlier than I was given it!

Take care of yourself! Thanks
