Has anyone got any positive/negative stories about Metformin? I’m due to start them tomorrow (500mg daily). Hoping it will help as I have PCOS and we have been TTC for 3 years. Did it help with weight loss?

I been on them 3 year best advice take them on a night as they are harsh on your tummy. I had one failed ivf and pregnant off my second still on metaformin till 12 weeks . Good luck we been trying 4 years thought it was never going to happen but it has. Can't comment on weight as mine has stayed same xxx

Dc2 is now 20 and a Metformin baby. Well, kind of. I actually got pregnant the month I stopped taking it. It didn't help with weight loss though. Unfortunately working out like a beast and eating properly was the only thing that did, but once I lost weight I found it easy to maintain.

Hello OP! I'm on my 5th week of Metformin. I started part way through my last cycle (which was a normal 32 days long) and I think I have just ovulated on CD 16/17 of this cycle (my first full Metformin cycle).

I started with 500mg for 2 x weeks, then 1000mg for 2 x weeks, and now I'm on 1500mg for 60 days. So far I have had minimal symptoms, but have gone off certain foods, or felt nauseous at the thought of eating food. I have been sick one (when I ate too much carbs) and if I eat too much sugar then I get stomach pains (not too intense, but not nice).

My advice is to ease in slowly, and to reduce your carbs and sugar intake... I am trying to follow a low GI diet which I think is helping.

Thank you all 🙏 I am also using ovusense and apparently haven’t ovulated yet (cd34) so I hope the metformin helps. I am taking a probiotic too and only had slight nausea today thankfully. Your stories have given me hope 😊

Hey there! It did help a lot at the start. I would say take advantage of it the first few months because at some point, it doesn't help us much.

I have pcos and tried for 7 years with no success. We were not entitled to fertility because dh has a daughter. I persuaded my Dr to let me try metformin and I was pregnant 6 months later. I have 3 dc now. Good luck op. It will give you the shits at first but keep on it if you can.

My consultant has said any metformin is better than none as I have ibs and acid reflux to start so has given me instructions to slowly increase from one, to 2 to 3 a day every 10 days but any issues to go back to the amount I could manage. I don't have weight issues any more but I do ensure I don't put weight back on with what I eat. Interested to see if it does anything with letrozole before ivf but we have MFI too so not holding out much hope
