Have people found their GPs willing to do a FSH test? I'm worried I'll be told I'm too old and to go away.

Honey2 · 19/10/2021 13:01

Hi all, phew. good news. Little baby with heartbeat and measuring slightly forward at 7weeks. I am disbelief, so pleased we have gotten this far but super nervous for the next 3 weeks until we are scanned again. Still, one step at a time! Thanks for all your continued support xx

Mattieandmummy · 19/10/2021 13:21

@kirinim I think the blood vial shortage is a bit of an issue, I had to fight for a thyroid blood test this morning. You can do a finger prick test though - medichecks or forth are companies I have used before. Or see if you can get a private referral to a lab - I've also had to do that one recently.

Thanks. I think I might bite the bullet and get a test done.

Great news! I just had my screening results back... all low chance. When do you start believing this might actually happen!?
Gemandi2 · 19/10/2021 16:12

Fabulous news @Honey2 👏, there's no doubt you will be counting down the next 3 weeks but make sure u enjoy every moment along the way ... massive congratulations x

Honey2 · 19/10/2021 16:51

@Lastyearttc that’s fantastic. I think you can start to feel positive and enjoy things now.. will you get another private scan between now and the 20 week one?

Lastyearttc · 19/10/2021 19:28

@Honey2 I hope so. I'm a bit skint atm so was wondering if the midwife could use the Doppler thing at the 16 week appointment... 2 weeks yesterday... then I might be able to tell people?

Honey2 · 19/10/2021 19:35

@Lastyearttc I think they normally do listen to baby’s heartbeat at the 16 week apt as part of the normal checks. It’s entirely up to you when you tell people - having had your 12 week scan and tests results I think I’d go for it personally.. you might start to show soon…?

Lastyearttc · 19/10/2021 20:13

@Honey2 I already am! Had the buy some maternity bottoms and wear my baggiest tops! So bloated! And the metallic taste is constant. How are you feeling?

Honey2 · 19/10/2021 21:26

@Lastyearttc yes bloated here too but I’m taking progesterone and I think that can cause bloating, wind, constipation, I have it all! Also sore boobs, but the nausea is not too bad thankfully 😊

Littlemiss41andfabulous · 19/10/2021 21:27

Lovely news @Honey2 and @Lastyearttc 😊

Yes I heard heartbeat at midwife appt at 16 weeks.

I have my 25 week appt tomorrow and am looking forward to hearing it again.

Catconfusion · 20/10/2021 05:41

@Honey2 that’s such great news. All signs are looking good for you. Your chances are great after seeing a heartbreak. Xx

@Lastyearttc I’m really pleased your results came back low chance. It’s always good at our age when the the background chance is so high. I read somewhere the combined test is more accurate with ladies over 40. Younger women sometimes find their results are skewed by their age being low chance. A lady who has a son with ds at my baby group is only 25 but got a 1 in 1000 chance so got a surprise at birth. Her age made it look low chance but actually it’s quite high for someone so young. I read it’s something like 90% accurate for over 40s so a really good indication. Xx

Catconfusion · 20/10/2021 05:43

@Littlemiss41andfabulous I’m so jealous. My 16 week appointment is over the phone so I won’t see a midwife until I’m 28 weeks. I’m 16 now so a long way to go. It’s because it’s a second baby but also there is a midwife shortage in our area, plus Covid. We booked a gender scan for the weekend to break up the wait for the 20 week one. Xx

Welcome @Lemonbell your chances are great it’ll happen for you. I stated ttc at 39 and had my ds at 40 after two mcs sadly but it happened quite quickly after 6 months of trying. I’m now expecting my second at 42. I did have another 3 losses in between but it happened after about 6 months of trying again. If you can just keep an open mind and take each day as it comes it’ll help. I definitely obsessed about it a bit each time which made the day to day more difficult. Both times I conceived healthy babies I was a lot more chilled out about it so I do wonder if it helps to be laid back. Definitely look at taking ubiquinol and supplements to support egg health. If you get to 6 months ask your doctor for a fertility referral. Good luck, I really hope it’s a quick and easy journey for you. Xx

Hello everyone! Exciting to hear how everyone’s pregnancies are developing @Catconfusion @Lastyearttc @Littlemiss41andfabulous and so pleased to hear you’re pregnant again and fingers crossed this is the one @Honey2 !!

I have been a bit quiet on here - I was so sad after the first round of ivf didn’t work (even though we knew it wasn’t guaranteed, I think I still thought it was going to be the magic remedy). i’m now going through round 2 but I would like to think I’m approaching it a bit more pragmatically this time having been through it once already though I am sure I’ll still be heartbroken if it doesn’t happen...

I wondered - my nhs referral for fertility checks finally came through and I have an apt on 7 Dec. Do you think there is any point in keeping it given that I’m doing ivf privately? I don’t want to waste nhs resources but also not sure if it might be worth seeing someone else to see if they look for/find something that a private clinic wouldn’t (because a private clinic is always going to be more driven towards encouraging people to do ivf!).

@Lemonbell I totally sympathise with those worries about leaving it too late, but there are lots of lovely ladies on this thread who prove that it is possible after 40!!! You might want to think about going to get a fertility check up sooner than later if you can - esp if it’s your first time ttc it’s good to have as much knowledge as you can.

Honey2 · 20/10/2021 10:30

@Lemonbell welcome - sounds like you have a good plan. I would definitely recommend chatting your Basel body temp alongside the opk sticks. Your temp will rise after ovulation and it’s the only way to know for sure you ovulated. Ovulation can happen anytime from 24-48 hrs after your peak opk. You are most fertile in the days leading up to ovulation - once the egg is released you only have 12 hrs (24 max) so really you want the sperm there and waiting!! Good luck. Feel free to Ask any questions you may have as the ladies on here know it all!!

Honey2 · 20/10/2021 10:31

@Lemonbell charting not chatting!! 🙈

Marvellouslymadmum · 20/10/2021 17:01

@FaB80 hi and welcome, I'm sorry to hear of your losses I think it's hard to process a miscarriage and each of us deal with it in our own way, if you feel sad again take some time to deal with it

@Gemandi2 6 high days in a row is normal I've had 12 before it changes from month to month

@Catconfusion I get multiple peaks most months but I don't think I can have mild pcos as my amh is low 🤔 confusing!

@kirinm I'm 42 and had lots of tests with my gp found them very helpful when you get the right doctor and I've now been referred to fertility and starting clomid this month too

@Honey2 congratulations lovely that's such good news! Keeping everything crossed for you and little baby having a happy healthy pregnancy xx

@Lastyearttc that's great news about your test results too! I think after mc it's hard to believe any of in until baby is in your arms, they do use the Doppler at appointments (or used to a massive 16 years ago when I last got that far 😂) but I'd say you're pretty safe to tell people now, even if it's just family

@Catconfusion that's weird to me that you don't get to see a midwife before then! I had a consultant appointment at around 20 weeks and had already had a few midwife appointments by that time but I'm very aware it's probably all changed a lot since then, I know you get sent home the same day after a c-section now 😳

@Lemonbell hi and welcome! As you can see there are a fair few bfps on this thread at the moment so it's totally possible for it to happen! I'd certainly get in touch with your gp for tests as soon as you can (6 months) so you can check everything, that way you'll know if you may need any assistance. I'd deffo get some opk and take your bbt to confirm it that way you'll know when to get dtd

@99pctpractice they do say that the first round of ivf is like the trial run when they're finding things out so 🤞🏻 for you! I'd have a look at your local areas criteria for ivf etc as sometimes you can't get nhs help if you've done private depends on their rules

Gemandi2 · 20/10/2021 17:26

Thanks @Marvellouslymadmum I'm on day 8 of high's so I'll just see how I get on. At least I know I'm not the only one whose had multiple highs - I was beginning to think my tester was going crazy x

Marvellouslymadmum · 20/10/2021 21:15

@Gemandi2 no definitely not, I know I spoke to a few others that had the same at the time when I started using them

Catconfusion · 21/10/2021 09:31

@Marvellouslymadmum I think as we’ve said before it’s so confusing when pcos isn’t diagnosed yet cycles are irregular. I’ve never really gotten to the bottom of what’s wrong with me. Mild pcos or pco has been mentioned. I have no idea about my AMH. I know my FSH is normal so that doesn’t fit the profile for pcos.

Yes it’s very different now due to Covid and staff shortages. I will speak to a consultant at 20 weeks after my scan so that’s good. It’s just a shame as I loved listening in with the midwife at 16 weeks and also talking through all those niggly symptoms. It’s not the same over the phone. I don’t worry so much for me but I some ladies are quite vulnerable and really need to see a midwife early.

Yes they get you hone quickly after a c section. I was home 34 hours later. It would have been 24 but they were short staffed. Xx

Catconfusion · 21/10/2021 09:37

Thank you @Lemonbell for the good wishes. It’s definitely a very very anxious time being pregnant after loss and at this age but we do feel very blessed.

I would definitely agree temping is the way forward. I used Ovusense with my ds and it was really easy. If you can afford it, totally worth it. We found it difficult ttc this time as we had a toddler. I used opks until I got a peak and then dtd two days apart. If my temperature went up I knew I’d ovulated and could stop dtd. It only takes once or twice so if you can pinpoint ovulation you’ll not need to dtd that much. Xx
