Letrozole and IUI

Hey guys!

Just for reference we are a same sex couple.

So my wife and I are about to start treatment with IUI. Hoping for the first cycle to be in October.
The consultantant has advised I take letrozole. I ovulate each month and my ovarian reserve test came back very high.
I am reluctant to take medication that seems extremely unnecessary. We were extremely fortunate and received IUI for our first child on NHS back in 2017 and there was no mention of letrozole and my wife amazingly conceived on the 1st attempt. I'm wondering if they are just wanting the extra money from us? The doctor did explain the benefits of taking it but has anyone had any experience with this?

Would love to hear all of your stories :)
