Does it affect your chances of conceiving if you haven't had alot of sex in the past few months/ years ? Our sex life isn't as regular as I'd like it to be but dh wants to try for a baby so we will obviously need to do the deed a lot more regular, but I'm worried that our lack of sex in the past will affect the quality of his sperm?

I don’t know for sure but I think it’s fine as long as he is ejaculating regularly (every 2 days Is optimum I believe) when you are ttc.

As long as he is not ejaculating fairly regularly while you are trying to conceive it should be fine, regardless of how regular you’ve had sex in the past. It’s important because there can be a build up of dead/low mobility sperm otherwise.

I recall reading somewhere that sperm takes 90days to be ready for ejaculation. So protect now what you may want to use in that time... So no hot tubs, tight pants, heated blanket etc
I also read that the quality of the DNA in the sperm starts to deteriorate after 5 days but ejaculating more frequently than every 2 days decreases the number of sperm released... So we always DTD EOD in fertile week and made sure the pipes were cleared every 4/6 days before then including just before the fertile week
