Increasing morphology

We had the semen analysis results back today and DH has a morphology of 2.38% (the WHO guidelines suggest that 4+ is best). Between that and my PCOS and irregular periods, is it game over? Is there anything we can do to increase it?

Hi, my partner’s morphology was 1.4%. He took the wellman conception vitamins and we conceived our DS 12 months after we started trying. Since then I’ve been pregnant twice, both at the first time of trying, though both were chemicals.

I can’t speak from a PCOS POV but just wanted to reassure you that a happy healthy pregnancy is definitely possible with low morphology and it doesn’t need to take ages (I didn’t feel like 12 months was that long in the grand scheme of things).

Good luck!

@charl881 That’s great to hear, thanks! I will get him on the supplements. It’s been 3 years so wondering if that’s the reason Sad

Hi @Greencauliflowers : We had been trying over a year and a half with an MMC last year. Found out DP had a morphology of 2% and a lower sperm count in June. I started him on Proxeed plus for men (twice a day in a freshly squeezed orange juice) along with Wellman vitamins, before we went for a repeat SA. It's only been a month and pleased to say I'm now 6 weeks pregnant and hoping this will be a sticky bean. We had totally braced ourselves for IUI/IVF next year. Now haven't even bothered to call GP and know our repeat SA results, although I'm curious to know the improvement and will try finding out at my booking appt soon.

He also followed a good balanced diet, walking or some sort of exercise, came off smoking and alcohol strictly and I really think this has helped. This goes to show that there can be conception with lower count and morphology too, just need to make sure the little swimmers are healthier. Hope this helps.

Hi @Greencauliflowers. I have PCO and DH has low motility and morphology. Last sample managed to get morphology up to 8% after 3 months on supplements including Impryl and ubiquinol, and daily (or close to daily) ejaculation.

He wasn’t a big drinker with poor diet/lifestyle anyway.

Maybe it was just fluke but it was an improvement in both motility (from 9 up to 26%) and morphology so I suspect it definitely helped.

Thanks all - that’s really useful to hear. He isn’t one for supplements but I will try and get him to take them! Hopefully we’ll have a BFP soon
