Ectopic Pregnancy - sister in theatre - got question.............

My sister phoned me on Tuesday in a state saying she was pregnant even though she was sterlized in Sept (clips on tubes). Gone through a rush of emotion in that time but had blood test and scan yesterday and was told very high chance of ectopic pregnancy. Was due to have 2nd blood test and scan tomorrow to see how the hormone levels were doing etc. but was told that if she got pain in either side in the meantime, to come straight back. I questioned her about pain in shoulder and she said they never mentioned this. I said she MUST make sure she's seen if she gets this as I know a bit from Mumsnet. Well thank god for that. She started with pain this morning but not too bad and carried on work etc. and then rang me in a lot more pain and I demanded she went to the hospital. The reason she didn't go earlier is because it wasn't too bad plus the hospital hadn't mentioned it. Anyway, she went in early evening and her dp calle me about an hour ago to say she went into theatre at 9.15pm to have both tubes removed.

I just wondered if anyone had any idea how long the operation SHOULD last and also, what the recovery is like after? I'm sat here waiting for a call once she's out but not heard anything yet (although aware dp may be waiting til she's out of recovery etc).

TIA

Hi Looney, no direct experience but my friend has had two ectopics and two surgeries. Can't remember how long the ops took but I know she was recovering for a few weeks afterwards.

Just thought I'd post so you're not on your own.

Thanks a lot. Just feel sick waiting!! Doesn't help that I'm pregnant myself so full of hormones!

Hiya mate. Well she's actually hoping to go home tonight but has to go back next week because...........no sign of baby in tubes therefore very possible she's still pregnant and if she is, they need to terminate otherwise she'll bleed to death later on if she continues!!

Oh my goodness - i would be furious with the hospital re. neglecting to say anything about shoulder pain (negligence!).

I know, if it wasn't for Mumsnet and me knowing this........well, I hate to think!!!

Yoohoo, mate of FozzieKbear here!

Hows things with your sister? Very confusing about her coming home. I just don't get how either she would feel fit enough to come home or the hospital would even consider letting her go.

Hiya Mo - have replied to your Facebook. She did come home last night, spoke to her today and said in pain but seemed happy to be home.
