6 months trying

Another month, another negative test. 6 months trying and my friends say ‘that’s hardly any time, keep trying’, and I will, but the sheer rollercoaster every month is hard to take! From the hope around ovulation time, to that long two week DPO wait and then to have another negative test :(

I’m almost 34 and feel my age may be playing a part.

Any words of advice or positive thinking?

I found month 6 to be my most difficult month when AF came. I guess '6 months' just seems so long! The next few cycles were actually much better when AF came, less of a 'milestone'. I got my BFP on month 11 and I'm now 6+2. I guess they say anything within a year is normal! Now I have conceived (hopefully it'll stick) I look back abs think maybe I was a bit naive thinking it would be so quick. I hope there's better news for you soon xx

Congratulations Smile Thanks. It's so helpful to hear others' experiences - when all my friends say they've fallen pregnant within a month or two of trying it makes you worry; even after reading online that a year is normal. Trying not to put too much pressure on myself!

I understand your frustration! Both times I've been pregnant I conceived on cycle 8. After month 6, I tried to think that all being well, I was on the home stretch. You're overwhelmingly likely to be pregnant by the end of January and possibly even having an alcohol free Christmas!

In my long journey of ttc my now daughter, I found that you only really heard from people who took a couple of months or were one hit wonders when conceiving. No one brags that it took 10 months but you get lots of bragging when it's the former!

I think that’s a very standard amount of time to try and you’re still young in the baby making game! It does suck constantly thinking about it and being disappointed so I do feel for you. My only tip is ovulation sticks if you don’t use them already.

Sorry- you probably didn’t mean practical advice. Didn’t mean to be patronising!

Lilo19 · 27/07/2021 20:46

@Chanel05 that's exactly how it feels. I hear about so many people who have fallen pregnant instantly and no stories from people who have taken longer. Would be nice to hear both to know it's normal.

@Kipkay35 not at all. Practical advice is always helpful. Have been using ovulation predictor kits and taking prenatal vitamins for around 8 months too.

Sorry no advice but I was ttc for 3 years with nothing. I had some tests as periods had stopped, again nothing found. Was offered IVF but as the ttc had taken its toll a bit we decided to wait a year, not try, have a break from it all and then take up the IVF in a years time. Within two months I was pregnant. I’m now 11 weeks, I still can’t quite believe it! I’m still cautious as I haven’t had my 12 week scan yet, but very hopeful :)

Hi there , it took me 9 cycles with my first. Odds are in your favour now for the next few months ahead . For me I started to try something every month to feel like I was doing something to help , the most impactful for me was doing acupuncture . I loved it it was so calming , I will never know fit sure but I really felt like it helped us conceive.

Someone else also mentioned acupuncture to me for relaxation. I'd be interested to try it. I've never had this before. Do you ask for a specific type? (sorry it's that's a silly question lol)
