PROGESTERONE!! Please help

Hi all, I have already posted about my progesterone levels, and I've done a search and found some very old threads (2006!!) about different progesterone levels.

Has anyone else had the 'day 21' test and found out what their levels were?
Any successful pregnancies from these results?

I had my 'day 21' test and my results were LESS THAN 1!!
Feeling very disheartened and like there's something wrong with me.
I'm 33, have regular periods but they're long (31 days give or take) and heavy for 2 days then it's finished.
I've tried temping, peeing on ovulation sticks but it's so up and down and not clear, I don't want to focus on it too much.

Please chat and let's help each other xx

Hi @beth1311 Its very possible that when your 21 day test was done you had not yet ovulated. The 21 day test is designed to take a snapshot of your hormones 7 days after ovulation... but it assumes you ovulated on day 14. Many many women do NOT ovulate on CD14, and this is perfectly normal.

How long are your cycles usually?

beth1311 · 27/07/2021 11:44

@Kay00 they average 31.5 days haha so around that mark.
I did think that my progesterone would be higher than that anyway, whether I'd ovulated yet or not.
Less than one is just... nothing. I was so disappointed x

@Kay00 my last period started 30th June, and I had my 'day 21' test on the 23rd July. So surely I should have ovulated...? X

@beth1311 I feel exactly the same as you and I've searched so many threads. Thinking even if I hadn't ovulated at that point, surely my levels should be higher than 1 (and it being less than 1 makes me feel like I've got a long road ahead!)
The GP was reluctant to do the test again so will only repeat it in 3 months. I don't know how to boost progesterone (again despite my googling!) I have read there are creams that help? but it's a bit of a mind boggle! Has your GP suggested anything to you, or will they give you anything to bring on ovulation?
How long have you been ttc if you don't mind me asking? X

Kay00 · 27/07/2021 13:48

@beth1311 Then, if your period arrived around 7 days after the test then it seems likely you did not ovulate. I have been tracking my cycles for over a year - I get LH spikes on OPKs and temp increases (I don't get them all the time) so I thought I was ovulating... but... My AMH was very high which showed I had a LOT of eggs stored in my ovaries, and my fertility consultant believes I have not been ovulating at all in the past year. I have been diagnosed with PCOS.

beth1311 · 27/07/2021 14:17

@Snoopysnores so far on the threads I've read I haven't found anyone else with less than one. It didn't make me feel better lol how can it be less than 1?! I don't understand it at all.

We've been trying to conceive for around 2 years now. I haven't been on any contraceptives and we haven't been careful, watching what time of the month it is or anything for almost the 5 years we've been together, so I don't feel particularly positive.

If I'm honest, in my late teens and all throughout my 20s I was very, uhh... promiscuous? Haha while my friends were in relationships I was single and loving life, and I was rarely ever careful (some people will be disgusted with me, I always had sti tests and regular check ups and I had fun so 🤷🏼‍♀️) and nothing happened at all. No scares, nothing.

I know my mind runs away with things but I'm real worried there's something else going on. My periods during that time were an absolute mess, always long and heavy. As I've gotten older they've stayed relatively steady at 32ish days on average, I bleed for 2 days and that's it.

Bodies are just weird. It's frustrating how some people just look at a penis and get pregnant 😞

I've had d21 progesterone of less than 1. It shocked me too. I had repeat progesterone test every week to check for late ovulation.

I had long cycles and sometimes I did ovulate.

Hopefully you have a gp to help discuss it and get a referral sorted for you to investigate further.

The next step for me was clomid

Dancingfairydreams · 27/07/2021 22:53

Hey @beth1311

I had a similar result. I have pcos so opks don't work, so I got an ovusense which indicated that I ovulate on day 25 !! Hence the low progesterone result! Looks like I have a super short LP, of only around 6 days...which wouldn't show up on the "21day" test. I would recommend an ovusense or other bbt tracking to see exactly when you ovulate..

PaddleBoardingMomma · 27/07/2021 23:12

My 21 day test back in November indicated I hadn't ovulated... 2 weeks later I got a positive pregnancy test and I'm due to have a c-section in two weeks to deliver my baby girl 🤣 I'm 32 if that makes any difference. Suspected pcos but was never followed up as the baby appeared lol.

beth1311 · 28/07/2021 09:08

@Ronnii I didn't know you could have jt done every week really. My GP kept saying about how it's like having a crystal ball and could take months to find it. Makes sense to do them more regularly in the one month than guessing!! Xx

OP posts:
beth1311 · 28/07/2021 09:10

@Dancingfairydreams I've never heard of ovusense, I'll have a look now.

I don't know why I just didn't think I'd ovulate so late, but now I guess I could have. Nothing to say otherwise I suppose!

Has yours gone up since you had the low result? X

@PaddleBoardingMomma that's incredible! Congratulations!
Did they test your progesterone later to see what the result was? I imagine it had gone up considerably! X

No funnily enough! Once pregnant they sort of went "oh right, job done then!" And I was moved to maternity and that was that no follow up about the potential PCOS or infertility xx

I had previous GPs that seemed clueless and weren't helpful. Took me ages to take initiative and push for more (blood tests/ referrals rather than give it time). Then I was lucky it seems to speak to a GP that suggested the weekly tests and seemed to actually want to help me find out what was happening and talk through my results etc.

Morning ladies!

Sorry if I'm hijacking this post.
A few days ago I booked my fertility appointment privately, filled out all the paperwork yesterday and through the postbox came my new pack of ovulation sticks!

2nd morning wee, I thought "ah why not try"... do these look positive to you?

I'm really keeping everything crossed thst there has to be something going on in there, and maybe I'm ovulating super late? According to the 4 apps I use for tracking, my period is due in 3 days time 🧐
Xx

@beth1311 Hi Beth. I personally wouldn't count that as fully positive, yet. It's nearly there imho, but I think it needs to be as dark or darker than the control line. Your test lines on both are just a little off that, to my eye, though they may look stronger in person. If I were you I'd have sex though, if you can! You may hit your peak later today or tomorrow. Smile

That said, if your periods are reasonably regular, you're only three days away from it, AND you've been having unprotected sex in your fertile window, you might want to do a HPT... I don't want to get your hopes up, but sometimes ovulation tests can pick up a pregnancy because LH and HCG are similar in structure.

beth1311 · 01/08/2021 12:21

@weathervane123 I'm pretty sure I'm at my peak now?!

My temp over the last 3 days has gone up from 36.3 to 36.4 and today it's 36.6!

Also, this test is a solid positive/peak isn't it? Please say it is 😂

@beth1311, ooh that's it alright! Good luck and happy baby making!

Raindrop25 · 10/08/2021 23:41

Can someone please help? Smile

I have been taking clomid since March with no luck, I get my progesterone level checked on day 21 of my cycle each month to see if I ovulated. The past 2 months it has been a level of 45, however this month is 85! It's the highest it's ever been.

Is this a good result? Could it possibly be a sign of pregnancy? Any information would help please!!

Thanks
