i want to know if anyone has been sterilized or knows anyone who has? i'm pretty wary of any invasive procedure and i know nothing of any side effects... i do know that i don't want anymore children and find all other methods crap! i know it seems extreme, but i would save myself a lot of worry. any info appreciated

I think you may struggle to have a sterilization just like that. My gp wouldn't even consider it and I was led to believe that there had to be a very good medical reason to do it and that was after two very traumatic pregnancies and births.dh has had the snip now so it's not an issue any more

All I can say is my sister found out today she is pregnant after having the op in Sept. She's in a right state, it's the worse thing that could happen (split with her H, currently in a safe house trying to sort stuff with H and kids and stuff and now this!!!). Just be prepared for it not being 100%! She had it done just before she turned 30 but there was a history of her becoming very very poorly (could have died) on the deprivera(sp?) injection so this added weight to the fight to have it done! Otherwise, it's really hard to get to have it!

thanks for the replies,i'm really sorry to hear about your sister, (looney) i hope it all works out ok. Iv'e heard that it can fail due to the tubes growing back, but this does'nt seem long enough? its not reliable by the sounds of it. I have an appointment to discuss the options, whether they will consider me, i don't know..i know it has to be a good reason to have it done, but i believe it is. I'm 40 next year and on my own with two children, i don't want anymore. i cant take any form of pill or injection, the coil made me ill and i got pregnant using a condom. Other methods are unreliable. I've not had sex in 2years as a result! i am really fed up now! i am really scared to have sex and am scared of the op, it would be helpful to know more about it from others experiences, Sex makes life so much more enjoyable, its depressing without it! (PS my names changed!)

My best friend was sterilised in May after having 2 babies in 12 months. She didnt have any problem persuading them to do it as although she's only 27 she's adament she doesnt want any more children.
She recvovered fairly quicky, i'd say she was back to normal in a week or so.. she looked awfull for a couple of days afterwards, she said she didnt feel to good either. She made the decision and had it done within a couple of months, i thik she's still coming to terms with in now although she sawa shes happy.

I think its less invasive for a man to have a vascetomy than for a women to be sterilised, its a quicker, easier op all round.

is therte such a word as vasectomised ? lol.

Good luck with it

i have been sterilised almost 5 yrs

i have 4 kids and no regrets about it at all

in fact i feel quite liberated by it

i was back to my usual routine within a couple of days

lou33 · 28/11/2007 12:17

i should also add that i had no problems at all getting it done, but then i was 34 and had 4 kids

i asked the consultant about it when i was pg with number 4, and he agreed immediately

bebopallula · 03/12/2007 23:06

cazboldy, nosey ol' you! well i was in town with two kids and suddenly got serious pains in tummy, had to quickly find somewhere to sit(collapse) then proceeded to get waves of semi-consciousness, it was really scarey, wanted it out!

worzsel, thanks for that,it would be far better if i didn't have to, and it would feel so final i guess, but no lasting physical side effects then?

lou33, if i decide to go ahead, i hope its as straight forward for me... everyone's unique, so there's no knowing, but i would imagine i would feel the same. Thanks X

lou33 · 03/12/2007 23:26

i have a friend who was done as well and she had no problems either
