TTC: Positive OPKs after miscarriage?

teeeekeey · 17/07/2021 16:26

I'm SO confused as to what is going on with my body!

Just over 2 weeks ago had an early miscarriage at 5 weeks.

I took a pregnancy test after one week and the line had become fainter. I decided to take OPks to see if I would ovulate again soon, the first test was light, but every test now for 7 days has been very dark.

Me and my husband DTD 6 days ago, I took a 3 Boots HPT's this morning and each 3 had a very dark line indicating pregnancy but very faint control lines? (I've triple checked that the left line is definitely the one that indicates pregnancy) I then took another type of test which has come back positive.

Is this left over HCG in my system playing tricks with the OPK's and tests? Or could this be a new very early detected pregnancy with levels boosted by the recent HCG?

ibb.co/NVS07Ns here's a picture of all the tests

They all look like very strong positives to me.
Sorry for asking but are you positive you miscarried? Was this confirmed bloods or a scan?
Or was it early pregnancy bleeding, I bled with both my children early on (all was fine) I obviously don't want to get your hopes up but I'd contact the early pregnancy unit see if you can get a scan or bloods. The control line is so faint because it's such a strong positive.
Sending you all the best of luck xx

This happened to me where I fell pregnant straight after a MC, same situation where I was testing for LH and they were all positive so decided to take a HPT and it was positive. DS is now 4 😀 FX for you 😘

teeeekeey · 17/07/2021 16:52

@Tiredmum31111 Hi, I didn't have it confirmed as when I called the doctors she just told me to 'ride it out'. I had bleeding for 10 days but without any strong cramps which I'd had in a previous miscarriage when I was very young and not many clots compared to last time either (sorry for TMI).

It suppose it could be a possibility- I haven't got my hopes up though and have just told myself that they are positives due to left over HCG. But like you say, they seem to be very strong positives! I'm going to call the doctor on Monday and ask them for a blood test! Thanks for replying :)

@Cheekymonkey3112 Thank you for such a positive story! I was also getting concerned at having very positive OPKs for so long which is why I've done the tests today! Fingers crossed! :)

I think it could be either option which I know isn’t helpful. When I miscarried I was told by the early pregnancy unit that I shouldn’t expect to see a negative until upto 3 weeks after i started bleeding. That being said these lines do look very dark. Might be worth getting your bloods check to see the hormone levels?

Cheekymonkey3112 · 19/07/2021 16:28

@teeeekeey how are you? X

teeeekeey · 19/07/2021 16:36

@Cheekymonkey3112 I've called the doctor today and have a scan arranged for tomorrow morning! Also done another test and it's a really dark positive, so I'm still so confused as to what's going on! I can't wait to have some clarity tomorrow (fingers crossed!) Thank you for asking! :)

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow hun, let us know ❤

Evening update! I got some of the clear blue tests which tell you how far along you are! I was thinking that my HCG levels would either be really low from the miscarriage or a conception a week ago, but the test shows 3+!

I've had a miscarriage previously and genuinely 100% thought I'd had another miscarriage, but maybe I haven't?! @Tiredmum31111 You're the first person that made me realise that maybe I could still be pregnant?!

I'm telling myself that it's retained tissue or something for now so I don't get my hopes up too much for tomorrow but EEEEK! What a rollercoaster!

Thank you so much ladies I will update tomorrow! Fingers crossed

Would love to know how things have gone for you @teeeekeey Flowers x

teeeekeey · 20/07/2021 13:11

After waiting for 3 hours I'm still no clearer :(

They done an ultrasound and couldn't see anything so have given me a sheet with pregnancy in an unknown location and done bloods and will probably know what's going on in another 48 hours. The sonogeapher said she couldn't see any sign it was ectopic, but now I'm worried. Meh I'm feeling even worse now argh! Now another tedious 2 day wait :( Why is this so complicated

OP posts:
Cheekymonkey3112 · 20/07/2021 13:32

@teeeekeey sorry you aren't any clearer on what's happening. Hopefully you just ovulated really quickly after your MC and you've since tested positive so it's maybe just too early?🤞

Tiredmum31111 · 20/07/2021 20:03

@teeeekeey aww I'm so sorry you're going through all of this.
I really hope you get some answers soon it must feel like such a difficult couple of day.
I've still got everything crossed xx

teeeekeey · 21/07/2021 16:59

I'm so stressed out I keep reading so many different things online and making myself panic about ectopic pregnancy. The sonographer said she didn't see anything that indicated ectopic, but I can't help myself but keep worrying until the results tomorrow, argh! Keep thinking of all the worst outcomes and having to have a tube removed etc, so stressful being unable to turn my mind off about it all!

I'm still so confused that I started bleeding at 5 weeks and now 2 weeks later am still testing positive for so much HCG but the lady couldn't find anything on the scan. She said I can't be 'telling the truth' about the dates I started bleeding, which really bugged me gr!

Sorry to have a rant, just needed a little vent today! :( I will update what happens again tomorrow!

Thinking about you today xx

teeeekeey · 22/07/2021 16:34

Bad news they called me and the increase in HCG wasn't good (from about 2,600-3,000+) and my progesterone level was 6- strongly indicating ectopic.

They told me to come into hospital to be prepped for surgery 2 hours ago, I came in and talked to the consultant for a while who said that the chance of ectopic was 65% and the chance of either a viable pregnancy or miscarriage was 35%. As I'm okay (no pain or bleeding) the chances of getting into surgery this evening were small and he said that an option would be to come back tomorrow morning at 8:40 for one last scan which I requested before more than likely going into surgery to try and locate and remove the pregnancy.

How shit, can't believe my luck- so typical, feeling SO shit out of luck and sorry for myself. Also VERY angry at my GP I called 2 weeks ago describing my symptoms who told me to 'ride it out'.

Going to try and relax this evening but keep just worrying that it's going to rupture 🙄 FML!

Aww I'm so so sorry. It seems like you're having the best care now. I hope things are ever so slightly clearer in the morning.
Sending you all my love, stay strong xxx

Wanderdream · 22/07/2021 17:35

Oh my gosh @teeeekeey, I’m so sorry to hear this. I would also be angry at my gp too. Sending lots of love to you tonight xx

teeeekeey · 24/07/2021 07:10

I just want to update everyone and anyone who reads this post in the future!

Last night I had ectopic surgery and had my right tube removed. I came in for another scan and the guy actually had a proper good look around inside (compared with the first woman who diagnosed PUL) and found something in my right tube.

I feel SO lucky that I done these pregnancy tests because I've had no bleeding or cramping symptoms since my 'miscarriage' 5 weeks ago! It could have ruptured and it could have been really life threatening.

It's a shit situation but I have learnt NEVER to assume a miscarriage ever again. The good news is most people still go on to have normal pregnancy after this as the left tube can move and switch between each ovary to collect the eggs when they're ready, which I thought was pretty cool!

Anyway, just now to recover, thank you ladies for always being so supportive and thinking of me, it's meant so much ❤️❤️❤️
