Paranoid - periods stopping and starting again !

OK, I know am totally paranoid, but my last two periods after a complicated miscarriage have been really odd. I bleed normally for a couple of days then stops and then starts again after half a day for another half day or so. and then six days later I get a little bit more blood. Just like a smidge for half an hour and then it stops! Sorry if TMI .

Has anyone else had anything like this? I am driving myself potty convincing myself my hormones are too low or something. Last month I convinced myself it was just my body trying to get back to normal, but this month is was almost exactly the same, and now I really am paranoid !!

Hi Milly, sorry about your mc. I had a mmc in August and my cycles got completely erratic and irregular after that, with irregular periods as well. I think it can take a few months for the hormones to settle down after first going through a pg then a mc. Have started acupuncture and refloxology to help my hormonal balance, and seems to helping. You can also see a consultant if you are really concerned (I did) and things don't seem to be settling down.

Hi PinkP. Thanks for replying Beginning to think I was alone out there. When you said you can see a consultant, did you just go back to the one you saw for miscarriage, or did you go back to your GP?

I saw a different one than the one I saw for my mc/erpc. I saw a gynae that a friend who had been through a complicated process to get pg had recommended, as I wanted a second opinion. I saw him privately, as I was really panicky at that stage and didn't want to wait to be referred. Basically, for 2 cycles after the erpc my luteal phase was only 8 days, I started panicking that I would never be able to conceive like that (my hormones were still all over the place so I was overreacting to everything) and I kept hearing these stories about women get pg within weeks after a mc and that women are more fertile after mc, so I thought something must be wrong with me. Although my first consultant I saw for the mmc had told me it might take 2-3 months to be able to conceive again... Gynae presribed Clomid, which I took for one cycle, in order to kick-start cycle and get hormones back up to normal - short luteal phase is usually due to low progesterone. I stopped taking Clomid for this (4th) cycle, as I was ovulating anyway, and want to see if everything goes back to normal "naturally". I do feel like my hormones are back to normal finally, but still pre-ov in this cycle so waiting to find out for sure. Did do acupuncture and reflexology to try compensate for the heavy medication last cycle, and am keeping up the acupuncture for the time being. Long reply, but basically it can take several months for things to go back to normal. And while some women can conceive immediately after a mc, for others it takes longer. Seeing a consultant is reassuring, but what you are going through may just be normal too. HTH.

I would recommend you take agnus castus herbal tincture - it is great for regulating your hormones. You will get it at
www.woodlandherbs.co.uk

Just put it in your juice 2x daily. I've taken it after 2 m/c and it really helps.

Good luck and hope it all work sout for you soon.

There are some supplements that are supposed to help to regulate your cycle. Also, if you bled a lot following your mc, you might be low in iron. Agnus Castus is one that many women take to regularise the cycle (although controversial here on MN), and I am also taking it now. Evening primrose oil and vit B6 in strong doses (100mg) are also supposed to be helpful (am taking both too). There are also some helpful books out there - Toni Weschler's Taking Charge of your Fertility, also Zita West's book has a section on mc and how to help your body recover through nutrition. Leslie Regan wrote a book about mc that is very factual. You can find all of them on Amazon. HTH.
