Is it possible that I only ovulate from one side?

I always seem to get right sided ovulation pain. Anyone any idea does this mean I'm only ovulating from my right ovary?

Hi OP, I have been having cycle tracking scans with a fertility doctor for 6 months and seem to ovulate from my left every month, so it is definitely possible that you have a 'lazy left ovary' (that's how they described my right 😂)

@LondonladyTTC it's so weird 😂 can't find much on it online

It is possible to only ovulate from one side. It's not common, and it's more likely if you've ever had a medical procedure or treatment that may have damaged one ovary, like radiation or appendix removal.

However ovulation pain doesn't necessarily correlate with the side you're ovulating from. Our ovaries move around in there and it's more likely to do with how your muscles and insides are arranged. I only get ovulation pain on my right side too, but scans have shown that I ovulate on my left side too. Bodies are weird.

In my case the painful side was where the cyst was!

I've always felt this was the case but like pp have said, can't prove it. I do however know that all 4 of my conceptions and pregnancies came from my right ovary, from early scans, and it consistently measures larger (from investigations for cysts). I have only ever felt anything on the right.

I only get one painful side but definitely ovulate from both (was told during multiple pregnancies).

Interestingly, my painful left side is the only side that gave me actual successful pregnancies, and seems to be overactive as it releases eggs even when it wasn't its turn.

Wow all very interesting!!
I had pain in my left hip the month I conceived DS.
Have been trying a few months now again and only seen to be getting the pain in my right side every month. I can't remember the last time it was my left side.

Well I can say (from
Personal experience) that if you only have one ovary, you still ovulate monthly, not on a bimonthly phase. So I see no reason to think that you couldn’t, if you had two ovaries but one was dormant/lazy/damaged etc.

I always get ovulation pain in my right side, however at my early pregnancy scans, they both said the egg was released from my left ovary due to the cyst present - I think it's the luteum cyst but I am probably wrong with the name.

I always feel that ovulation is happening on my left side only 🤷‍♀️
