Hi everyone! Quite new to these forums and a little lost with all the threads, but wondered if anyone is also trying to conceive their first baby over 35 and would like to chat! Smile
I’m 36 and have been trying for 6 months and would love people to chat with and to offer each other some support.

Hi @Mrsspoon3! How are you getting on? I’m 35 and have been trying to conceive our first since July 2020. So been a little while now, although have been pregnant twice in that time but unfortunately ended in losses. 1st was a chemical pregnancy back in Feb and 2nd was MMC at 9 weeks back in August. Currently on 2nd cycle since last miscarriage, day 13 and still no positive on the ovulation tests…. a little worried I’m not going to ovulate this month. Keen to get pregnant again and hoping it’s 3rd time lucky for us! Do you monitor your cycle in any way, like ovulation tests or temping? Fingers crossed for you and you get your bfp soon x

Fredstheteds · 07/10/2021 15:14

39 now and trying for number 2, had 1st at 37

Iris26 · 07/10/2021 15:24

Hi everyone, getting married next month then we are going to try for a baby. Neither of us have children. I'm 35 and hoping i do catch and it won't take too long, I've read its harder to conceive when older. How are you all? Sorry to hear about your misscarage @OneDay86

OneDay86 · 07/10/2021 16:02

@Fredstheteds congratulations on your first! It’s nice to hear positive stories of ladies conceiving over 35, makes me feel hopeful for my own TTC journey. Good luck with your 2nd, hope you get your bfp soon x

Hi @Iris26! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! We got engaged this year and are hoping to tie the knot in 2023. It’s so nice weddings are more back to normal now after all the lockdown shenanigans of the last year. Exciting times ahead for you both! I’d try not to worry too much about the age thing, it’s different for everyone and some people catch quicker than others. Besides my consultant keeps telling me 35 is still young! 😂 I actually have a colleague in work who’s the same age as me (35) and she caught 2nd month of trying (very slightly jealous)! Have you looked into taking any prenatal vitamins yet? I know they can help improve your chances before you start. Wishing you all the best for the next few months, enjoy all the exciting times ❤️

Mrsspoon3 · 07/10/2021 19:13

Hey everyone! Ah I’m so sorry to hear about your losses @OneDay86. I had 2 chemical pregnancies in 6 months of trying and it’s really hard. It just have been especially hard losing one at 9 weeks, I’m so sorry to hear that. Have you been for any tests or investigations? Hopefully your ovulation is just a little late this month if you have normally ovulated by now.
I’m actually pregnant now, I was about 5 days pregnant when I started this thread but didn’t know it!! The month I got pregnant I actually thought I hadn’t ovulated as my ovulation tests were still showing no ovulation on about day 20, and my bbt didn’t rise for ages and ages, but it did happen eventually. Hopefully yours is just late! Hoping you’ll get a bfp this month!!

Ah congratulations on your upcoming wedding @Iris26!! How exciting! 😊 I got married in December (in between lockdowns) and we started trying after that. Neither of us had children yet either.

Hope you all get your bfps very soon!! I know everything says getting pregnant after 35 can be harder so I was convinced it would take us ages and ages, but we got pregnant on 6th cycle and I’m 37, so it can happen more quickly!

Yes... me! It took about 8 months to get pregnant the first time but that ended in mmc and then a further few months to get pregnant again but that ended as a mc. I'm now 34 wks pregnant and nearly 37 and didn't think it would ever happen.

We tried all of the counting days, ov sticks, only doing it certain days for 12 solid months and we actually fell pregnant with this one after a few too many wines and forgetting when we should be thinking about it. I had been on contraception for about 17 years and knew that it had screwed with my system a bit so was prepared for it to take time however didn't think sex would ever be a chore. It did become one.

OneDay86 · 09/10/2021 12:29

Aww @Mrsspoon3 that’s amazing news! ❤️ Congratulations!!! How many weeks are you now? Thank you for coming back and updating with the happy news, it’s so nice to read positive outcomes, gives me hope for my own ttc journey. Do you mind if I ask if you did anything different the month you got your bfp? That’s funny you ovulated later then normal, the same thing happened with my last bfp, I ovulated about 5 days later then I normally do. Oh and I’ve finally had a positive on my ovulation tests this month at day 15, so relieved it looks like I am ovulating, fingers crossed!

I’m so sorry for your 2 losses. It’s such a hard thing to go through. I did have some blood tests after my second loss, looking at blood clotting issues, hormonal imbalances etc. They all came back normal, which was good. The doctor said it was most likely chromosomal abnormalities with the foetus, and unfortunately it’s happened twice in a row. Which apparently isn’t as uncommon as you think. He’s confident that I can go on to have a healthy baby, so back on the ttc wagon at the moment.

Congratulations to you too @cakeandpreggers!!! I’m so sorry for your losses but lovely to read you got your sticky bean in the end ❤️ Thank you for sharing your story, like I said to Mrsspoon3 it’s so encouraging to hear positive outcomes. Gives the rest of us hope. I bet you can’t wait to meet baby, not long left now!

I’ve had quite a similar timeline to you with tcc - 8 months for first pregnancy that ended as a chemical, then 4 months to get pregnant again that ended in a MMC. Now I’m on my 2nd cycle and hoping to be one of those lucky ones that get pregnant again quite quickly. I also was on the pill for 18/19 years so worried it’s messed up my system a bit. I think it took me a while to start ovulating properly, I struggled at the beginning to ever get a positive on ovulation tests. Sex has definitely changed for us, it’s become a very timed (we follow SMEP method) procedure that’s carried out with military precision 😂 The romance and fun has definitely taken a back seat. Hopefully will be worth it in the end.

All the best to you both! Hope the rest of your pregnancies go smoothly and quickly for you xx

Hi

Hope you don’t mind me joining… 36 and ttc number 1. Had ectopic 3 years ago now starting the ttc journey again ….with 1 tube ! Might need a miracle !

Mrsspoon3 · 09/10/2021 18:33

Congratulations @cakeandpreggers! 😊 I’m so sorry to hear about your losses. I’m so glad you were able to get pregnant again. That’s exciting you’re now 34 weeks!!

Ah thanks @OneDay86! 😊 I’m 18 weeks now on Monday. It’s going so fast!
I was actually trying something (or a few things) new each month in the hope it would increase my chances. For the money I got my bfp I had given up caffeine and started drinking grapefruit juice after my period as I read it can help. I’m sure an old wives tale but I was feeling desperate!! My husband also started taking the Wellman fertility supplement about a month before, and I started taking ubiquinol as I read it can help improve egg quality, especially if you’re over 35. I wondered if it was the last 2 things that helped, as I know chemical pregnancies are often caused by chromosomal problems which can be caused by the quality of the egg or sperm, but I don’t know if we were taking them long enough to make a difference or not! I also booked in for some relaxation classes and a massage during my fertile week to try and reduce stress. I’ve no idea if any of those things helped but they were all the things we did differently that month!!
We were also using Pre-seed and I was using Clearblue digital ovulation sticks and taking my temperature to track ovulation.
I know what you mean about romance and fun taking a back seat when ttc!! 😂

That’s funny you ovulated later too when you got your last BFP! I wondered if mine was due to the ubiquinol. Maybe it’s a good sign though as it means egg is taking longer to mature and better quality, but that could be a load of rubbish I’m talking haha. That’s good you’ve had a positive on your ovulation tests now! 😊
That’s good you doctor is confident you can go on to have a healthy baby! I really hope it happens for you very soon!!
Best of luck and also to you @BLM18! I hope you both get good news very soon!

Hi @BLM18! Thanks for joining us 😊 So sorry to hear about your previous loss. Can’t imagine how hard that was while also dealing with having a tube removed, must have been so tough to go through. You’ve definitely still got a very good chance of getting pregnant though with one tube, plus you’re only 36 so still plenty of time. Really hope you get your bfp soon though, fingers crossed for you. Have you been trying for many cycles or are you about to start?

Happy 18 weeks @Mrsspoon3! 😊 Your next scan can’t be too far away, are you thinking about finding out what you’re having?

Thanks for all the info regarding your bfp month. Never tried grapefruit juice so may have to look into that! Funny enough my OH has recently switched to Wellman fertility supplement so hoping that will also help. I also tried Bioquinine CoQ10 supplements the month I got my bfp, and always wondered if that was what had delayed my ovulation! Had read in ‘It starts with the egg’ that those types of supplements are good for egg quality, like you said. Makes sense that maybe if ovulation is delayed the egg has more time to mature, and your lining perhaps more time to thicken??? Either way that was what I did different my last bfp month too. Also been taking the supplement this month but my ovulation was only delayed by a couple of days rather than 5 like the last time. Fingers crossed it works as well as last time 😂 If you don’t mind me asking, which brand did you try? I used Pharma Nord which I think was mentioned in the book. So expensive though!
Also use conceive plus which I think is similar to preseed. Relaxation classes sound like a great idea! Espeically as I’m a bit of a worrier in life! I did try acupuncture for a couple of months, but didn’t find it particularly relaxing, mainly because I’m not a big fan of needles 😂

BLM18 · 11/10/2021 19:31

@OneDay86 hi. Only just stopped pill ready to ttc ! So going to see what happens !

OneDay86 · 13/10/2021 23:07

@BLM18 ahh so early days yet. All the best to you and fingers crossed it will happen quickly for you. There’s really no reason why it won’t. I know it’s said all the time… but try to relax and enjoy tcc 😁 Fingers crossed for you! Xx

Iris26 · 15/10/2021 16:22

thank you, very excited for the wedding and so glad it will be fairly normal with rules changing. Congrats @cakeandpreggers and @Mrsspoon3 on your pregnancies. Welcome @BLM18 its nice to chat with people who are ttc so we dont do our partners heads in hahaha. We can chat about it and discuss ways to track or help etc. Does anyone use the flo app? have you found that the ovulation is accurate? when we start trying i just want to go with the flow i dont want to do temperature or ovulation kits. I wanted to try and keep it relaxed so I dont get stressed. @OneDay86 are you now in your 2ww?

Iris26 · 28/10/2021 10:27

Hi ladies,
Wondering if you can help. Has anyone had fake positives pregnancy tests before? Does it happen much? I'm late and im due to get married next month but started to panic as now period will fall on wedding day. So I thought I'd take a test on an off chance seeing as I'm 3 days late which isn't unusual as I'm a little stressed atm but I have 2 lines but I feel like I have period pains and I've heard that you can have fake positives or evap lines.

Iris26 · 28/10/2021 10:48

Here's some pictures, few minutes just after to about 15 mins later. Do evap lines get darker?

Mrsspoon3 · 30/10/2021 12:19

@Iris26 Ah congratulations! Apparently fake positives are very, very rare. As you say evaporation lines apparently can happen (though I’ve not actually seen one), but if the first photo was within the timeline I don’t think this could be an evap line! Have you tested again?

Robin17 · 30/10/2021 12:42

Hi all, I'm TTC my first and I'm 38! Just started using the ovulation testa but so far they don't seem to be working for me. I'm well in to the stage where LH should be peaking but test saying no! Had a hormone test at docs recently and all fine but these tests are meant to be 99% accurate...anyone else finding this?
@cakeandpreggers congratulations! Your story is reassuring, maybe we should get drunk and go with the flow but still v early days to start getting worried. Just want these damn tests to work, they cost enough! Smile

ExcitedtoTry · 30/10/2021 13:36

TTC our first too and I’m 37. This is our first month. I had a faint positive on a cheapy test this morning but tried a Clearblue and it was negative. Will try again tomorrow.

@Robin17, I’m so pleased I used ov tests because I ovulate much earlier than period apps would suggest! I now know why I always got a cramping feeling on day 12.

Good luck everyone!

Iris26 · 30/10/2021 18:16

@Mrsspoon3 I did test again. I showed my sis and she said that's defo not an evap line and said to do another so I did digital blue and it said I'm pregnant 2-3 weeks. Very surprised but we are so excited

Mrsspoon3 · 30/10/2021 18:19

Ah congratulations @Iris26, that’s amazing!! So pleased for you! 😊

Hellooo,

so I know it’s been a while since this thread was started etc but I’m nearly 36 and we have just started ttc our first baby.
we have been together just over two years and lived together since January and decided it’s time.
I have been pregnant before, which ended in loss, about 6 years ago. But I am with a different partner now and I just don’t know what to expect.
I feel like manifestation might help me get through this.
but anyway, I am approaching ovulation so it is time for us to get busy.
im so scared/excited!
can I hear some success stories please?
