@ElsieG3m Welcome and sorry for your losses. I had no problems conceiving my DS when I was 34 and it was a healthy pregnancy etc. I seem to get pregnant quite easily whilst TTC but I have had 4 miscarriages since my DS (mostly at just under 6 weeks).

I am currently pregnant and so far it seems to be going well but I still have post-miscarriage waves of fear about it all.

I've had all of the tests the NHS will offer me but no problems found. I was given progesterone at bfp for my previous pregnancy but that ended at around 5.5 weeks, just after I'd seen two gestational sacs at a 5 week scan. I also took 75mg aspirin at bfp.

This time around my gynaecologist has prescribed 150mg aspirin every day whilst ttc and during pregnancy (most likely up to 12 weeks) as well as progesterone pessaries after I ovulate. She told me to take the pessary at CD15 because my cycles are usually 28 days but I didn't have a peak ovulation day from my CBlue kit until CD15 so I was too scared to take it in case I hadn't ovulated yet so I took it on CD17 instead after I'd had ewcm and what I think were ovulation pains. I've no idea how this one will go but I'm having a hcg blood test tomorrow so hoping that will be a lot higher than my last one on Tuesday.

Did you use the contraceptive pill after having your first child? I took the progesterone only pill for over 4 years after having my DS and part of me thinks that could be why I now need progesterone pessaries / pregnancy support. Xx

H0peing · 02/09/2021 21:01

@sunnySideUp2020 I'm surprised that your numbers more than doubled in 48 hours! I've read that hcg levels increasing by around double is really good but more than double is great! Your success encourages me to stay hopeful! I've no idea what my levels will be tomorrow. Really hoping they are as they should be! Quite nervous but busy all day thankfully so that will help. X

H0peing · 02/09/2021 21:03

@Babyghirl Great news! Hopefully this is a lucky month for you! Xxx

H0peing · 02/09/2021 21:17

@Annny27 Definitely 💩! So sorry to hear that AF arrived!!! Xxx

H0peing · 02/09/2021 21:35

@PeanuttyButter So pleased to hear that your scan went well!!! I'm worried that mine could be ectopic too. Glad the scan has put your mind at rest about that. Xx

ElsieG3m · 02/09/2021 21:35

@H0peing congratulations! That's great news and fingers crossed that the progesterone and aspirin works for you and a happy 9 months is ahead.

I take 75mg aspirin daily and several consultants have suggested a monitored cycle with progesterone support which I'm keen to do though actually I'd like to try just the progesterone to see if it helps without having to do all the scans. I ovulate v late (day 19 of 28 day cycle) so short LP and I've always thought progesterone might help. Really hoping they let me have that. I've had every test under the sun apart from karotyping. I had day 21 progesterone which was normal but I read it can fluctuate massively and a single reading doesn't guarantee anything. I'm kind of hoping it's that as it's something tangible and hopefully fixable. My ovarian reserve is v good, everything else appeared fine and OH swimmers are good, dna frag normal etc. My pregnancy with my little girl was text book - all v healthy so I have been able to carry to term, just seem to fail sometimes.

Did I read back on the thread that you tried Chinese medicine? I have acupuncture too which helps with my stress levels.

Do you/does anyone know about decaf coffee? I have a few cups a day and wonder if I should stop them. Am also thinking of doing a v high protein, low carv, zero sugar diet. Husband thinks I'm bonkers but I need to feel I'm doing something!!

H0peing · 02/09/2021 22:08

@anoki Congratulations on a great line for your bfp! Very clear! I think the sensitivity on a FRER is around 6.5miu whereas when I phoned Clearblue to check what their sensitivity was they gave me the following numbers:

1-2 weeks = 10-156 miu/ml
2-3 weeks = 156-2600miu/ml
3+ weeks = 2600miu/ml and above

I guess people are most likely to get a 1-2 weeks on CB before getting a 2-3 after a FRER test and the weeks indicator is not 100% accurate even with fmu so I guess the weeks part of it could cause unnecessary worry. I'm planning to avoid using a CB test again for this pregnancy as I know it could upset me unnecessarily if it hasn't jumped to the next stage as soon as I want it to...easier said than done but I currently have no CB tests in the house so hopefully that will make it harder for my sudden impulse testing! Xx

H0peing · 02/09/2021 22:35

@ElsieG3m Thank you! What do they mean by a monitored cycle? I don't really like coffee or tea but some women choose to swap to decaf coffee as reduced caffeine is often recommended whilst TTC. Easier said than done though if you're used to drinking normal coffee regularly! It's up to you if you want to reduce caffeine or not.

Yes, I tried Chinese herbs but it got too expensive and was too stressful as apparently I was damp (excess water in the uterus) as well as cold so there were a lot of things I couldn't eat like cheese!!! A friend told me that she finally had a healthy pregnancy after several miscarriages when she cut out gluten (she diagnosed herself about reacting to gluten) so I cut gluten out too just in case. With all of that I still miscarried a multiples pregnancy with my last miscarriage so recently I am just trying to be a lot more relaxed about what I eat! So far this pregnancy is going well with a pretty normal diet.

I think the Chinese herbs were helpful though, especially for my coldness lol! I used to always get cold easily but I'm loads better now even after stopping the herbs so I can feel the difference there but I can't really measure the dampness part, although she used to say it was visible on my tongue but it improved just as I was running out of money!

I planned to try acupuncture but the lady I went to said that I didn't need it and that the herbs would be more effective and cheaper for my problems. I know lots of friends who've had healthy pregnancies after acupuncture! I really hope it helps you xxxx

H0peing · 02/09/2021 23:15

@Spotsmama I looked up things online, found this website then asked if it would be possible to have all of the following tests. Might not get them all on the NHS but no harm in asking I guess:

www.london-gynaecology.com/self-pay-packages/recurrent-miscarriage-testing/

PeanuttyButter · 03/09/2021 08:47

@ElsieG3m I drink a lot of coffee usually including when TTC. I'd cut back a bit around the time of implantation until AF came but continued as usual otherwise. Whilst pregnant I will only have one cup of instant caffeinated coffee and the rest decaff.

ElsieG3m · 03/09/2021 08:53

@H0peing thanks for the info! A monitored cycle is just where they scan you to check when you're ovulating. They had offered that with letrozole, trigger, IUI and progesterone as one option since they have said that ivf carries such high risks for me.

I don't drink caffeine but I do have a lot of decaf coffee and I had wondered whether to cut this also since it has trace amount of caffeine.

@PeanuttyButter thanks and congratulations on your pregnancy!

EmiGoiko · 03/09/2021 09:27

Sorry I've been quiet, I'm in Suffolk trying to relax! Welcome to all the newbies on the thread. Sorry you find yourselves here, but glad you found us.

@anoki congrats that's definitely a line!!! Fingers crossed for you.

@H0peing that sounds like good progression on the tests and a good result on your first bloods! Keeping everything crossed the next bloods are good.

@PeanuttyButter amazing news on the scan! Yay! How are you feeling?

@kiwi17 sorry to hear about the test being cancelled. That Is so shit! I can't understand why this isn't a priority. Makes me so mad.

@ElsieG3m I have a daughter but since have had one MMC (stopped growing at 5 weeks, found out at 8) and one miscarriage at 5.5 weeks. Now am 6 weeks pregnant. I've had basic tests done but no issue found, but as only had two miscarriages not been referred yet. So far this pregnancy seems better than the second. This time I did a few things differently. Taking 150g asprin since ovulation, read it starts with the egg which I recommend. I have a feeling my issue is egg quality, we get pregnant easily but then I lose them early. So made lifestyle changes and been taking a ridiculous amount of supplements. Also doing acupuncture which I find helpful for stress at the very least. Really hoping this pregnancy sticks.

I've decided to finally ring epu today and ask for a scan. I realised I need to know it isn't another blighted ovum asap and ensure the pregnany gets registered so I can get referred if the worst happens.

EmiGoiko · 03/09/2021 09:30

Oh and also cut caffeine. Trying to stick to max 2 cups decaf a day and use swiss filtered only so less chemicals. I have had trouble finding any info on limiting decaf so decided just to err on side of caution.

Babyghirl · 03/09/2021 09:47

So many new ladies with us so much to read welcome girls sorry you find yourself with us but glad you found us for support the ladies here r great but nuts 😂😂😂😂😂😂 nothing is ever tmi from cm to what way you do the deed lol I'm just finished with the horse riding lol 💚

ElsieG3m · 03/09/2021 10:31

@EmiGoiko congratulations! I had a MMC at 12 weeks and an early MC before my daughter. Had lots of tests done and nothing was found but got pregnant with her 3 months after the MC and she's a perfect little 2.5 y/o now. thanks for the info! I've read it starts with the egg and take 75mg aspirin daily as advised by my haematologists.

I will cut the decaf and stick to red bush tea. Do you mind my asking which supplements you take? I take the zita west vitamins plus ubiquinol. I also have weekly acupuncture.

All theee previous pregnancies at 33/34 were v quick (1st/2nd month) but this one took 7. I'm
Worried about age though it did happen 2months after I had a hycosy so wonder if that helped clear out my tubes... maybe not and just egg/embryo quality. I have been told I have a v good ovarian reserve for my age and that quality and quantity tend to go together but not sure if this is true...

Really hope this one sticks for you!

EmiGoiko · 03/09/2021 11:19

So epu won't scan me. I'm gutted. We will have to go to a private scan and our experience last time was awful. They were so cold when they told us the bad news. So really upset we have no other options.

EmiGoiko · 03/09/2021 11:29

@ElsieG3m I'm sorry to hear about your previous losses, that's so tough. Good news though about your ovarian reserve.

So I've been taking the following:

  • zita west vitafem preconception vitamin
  • zita west vita boost
  • 1000mg vitamin d 1 spray
  • 400mg ubiquol
  • 200mg alpha lipoic acid
  • 600mg N-acetylcysteine
  • a fish oil dha supplement but can't remember amount
Also weekly acupuncture
Babyghirl · 03/09/2021 11:48

@Emigoiko
That's awful they won't see you, try get another scan place to go to and when phoning to make app tell them about your past experience at the other place they won't all be like this one 💚

ElsieG3m · 03/09/2021 11:51

@EmiGoiko thank you! I do most of those but will add in a couple. Whereabouts are you based? If in London, go to the EPU at UCLH. They will see and scan you and won't ask questions. You don't have to go to your local especially if you have symptoms you're concerned about x

EmiGoiko · 03/09/2021 12:22

Thanks, I'm in Hampshire so will look for somewhere and hopefully if I tell them the history they'll be sensitive. 💜

I've carried on taking a few of them since finding out am pregnant. Really deliberated as i know you need to be careful. In the end have carried on with the NAC and alpha lipoic acid (as well as a proper prenatal) as read they could help reduce miscarriage. So hoping that is the right thing to do. 🤞

PeanuttyButter · 03/09/2021 13:53

@EmiGoiko so rubbish they won't scan you. I know exactly what you mean about the lack of compassion with the private companies. I refuse to go back to the place I found out for that very reason. I also find then having to go to the epu afterwards another ordeal.

How much vitamin d does everyone take? DH bought me some but I think they are too strong. Midwife recommended the pregnacare vitamins last time but I already have my folic acid etc

Babyghirl · 03/09/2021 14:33

@PeanuttyButter
I'm on them through the doctors cause mine was s low, but if I'm right you pee out what u don't need anyway I think.

SunnySideUp2020 · 03/09/2021 16:22

Congrats @anoki that s a good line!

Sorry AF arrived :( @Annny27
it is utterly shit. Nothing else to say...
Sending hugs over 🤗🤗

I have my first peak OPK at cd 35 ! 🥳🥳🥳
I am super happy. 👌
We dtd today not knowing it was peak.
And tbh we do it when we can.... hard with the baby and the fact that she doesn't sleep for long without looking for me these days!
But hey we managed today so kinda meant to be!

Not sure we will be able to do it again this week 😅😅

ELM7 · 03/09/2021 17:35

Hey Ladies

Hi hope you are all ok. Sorry for the late response has been a rough few days

Um so when you think the shit year can’t get any shitter the universe let’s you know it can. Am having another miscarriage so now isolating before going to hospital on Mon for operation.

I should be 9 weeks today but after our scan 10 days ago and seeing our little bean measuring smaller than i thought but with a heartbeat it unfortunately wasn’t meant to be and a week later I started to bleed. Back for a scan today to confirm no heartbeat any more. Have opted for surgery as then they can do genetic testing to see if there is a reason behind the miscarriages and will also be referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic.

So shit shit and more shit. I’m just angry today - it’s not fair and so many waste of space people have babies so easily yet we all deserve our rainbows and it just is so hard for us.

Annny27 · 03/09/2021 18:30
