Hello everyone! Apologies if this ends up a bit long, I tend to ramble.

So I take the combined pill, Marvelon, and have been on it since I was 17/18 (bar a one year gap between 2018-2019). I was initially put on this pill because of side effects I experienced with microgynon and it has been an absolute dream, short periods with little pain, no side effects... Until now (maybe).

Last month was my sister and my dad's birthday so my boyfriend and I visited for the weekend. I had just started a new pill packet and on the Friday that we arrived I was on day 3 of the new pack. Now, that weekend passed by in a blur of seeing family members I haven't seen in ages and alcohol. Unfortunately, this caused me to forget to take my pill on Saturday and Sunday (days 4 and 5) but my boyfriend and I still had sex both days. When we got home on the monday I realised I missed two pills and let my boyfriend know. We both came to the conclusion that it would ~probably~ be fine and continued as normal. Can't remember if we had sex in the 7 days after (probably did) but I know we wouldn't have used a condom.

My period came right on schedule on the 13th June and was the same heaviness as it normally would be so I concluded that I had, in fact, been right and all was good, I moved on and forgot about it.

I am now 13 days into the next pill packet and haven't missed one this month. Since about day 8 I've been getting light, period-like cramping which, as far as I can remember, isn't normal for me. It's been getting steadily more noticeable and today I got a wave of cramps that actually made me grab my uterus in surprise. As I type this there is a constant dull ache down there, not pulling or stretching (which I've read is what early pregnancy cramps feel like), just normal cramps.

I haven't taken a test as I'm kinda broke this month and don't get paid for 11 days yet. I don't have any other symptoms of pregnancy like sore/growing boobs, etc. So I'm inclined to think it's simply my body changing (I'm now 23) and causing different reactions to the pill (I also now get PMS which I'm pretty sure I didn't get before either) but any opinions on this are welcome :)

You can get a free preg test at your gp or family planning clinic, or at £1 poundland.

Take the test and put your mind at ease either way.

I didn't cramp in early pg, every woman is so different and every pg is different so hard to tell from symptoms alone.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 29/06/2021 10:54

Probably not but as PP says, a pregnancy test is a pound, and that is the only way do know.

Hopefulhedgehog · 29/06/2021 11:32

Very unlikely but buy a test!

Thank you for your replies! I guess I'm gonna have to go buy a test lol! I'll update with the result :)

I used to occasionally have breakthrough ovulation when takin the pill and I could tell because I would get cramps around the middle of the cycle.

hereforthefood · 29/06/2021 17:39

Wouldn't it be a bit late in my "cycle" for ovulation pains though? I've only got a week left until I come off my pill and about 10 days until my period will start

You don’t really have a true cycle on the pill. If you are taking it properly you don’t ovulate. If you stopped at any time in the month there’s a chance your body would try and ovulate.

hereforthefood · 30/06/2021 09:47

I haven't missed any this month so I doubt it's ovulation pains. The only reason I'm even considering the cramps to be connected to last month's missed pills is because I've heard it's more common to get breakthrough bleeds still when you you get pregnant on the pill. I'll be buying a test today!

There’s only one way to find the answer…good luck
