I haven't tried but you can still get pregnant while breastfeeding.

birdbybird · 25/06/2021 20:54

I have conceived twice - when my baby was 12 months then again at 13 months but had early losses. He’s now 18 months and I’m still trying. I had to skip one or two cycles.
I’m still breastfeeding him although only twice now.

LoopTheLoops · 25/06/2021 20:55

Yep well not planned 🤦‍♀️ I was pregnant within 3 months of having my daughter but then my periods returned straight away despite ebf Hmm

firsttimemummy321 · 25/06/2021 22:00

My periods returned quickly so I went onto the pill. Came off it in November and I've been having short luteal phases which are either causing or caused by multiple early losses 😞

firsttimemummy321 · 25/06/2021 22:00

Also breastfeeding to sleep and for comfort usually 2 times a day but weekends a couple more

Minster2012 · 26/06/2021 21:44

I know 2 ppl who have conceived twice whilst breastfeeding, both with younger DCs so feeding more

espresso14 · 26/06/2021 21:53

I couldn't conceive until I stopped breastfeeding, even when down to 1 a day and periods returned. But, one month to the day after I stood my ground and cut that last feed, I became pregnant. It was hard work doing a firm withdrawal of bf, but she was old enough (23.months) and loves having a sibling.

FTEngineerM · 26/06/2021 21:54

29 weeks pregnant and DS1 is 1 😀.. yes I got pregnant whilst breastfeeding. Actually we fell pregnant the first month of weaning at 5.5m old.

mumsophia7 · 26/06/2021 22:15

In a similar boat... currently my little one (9 months) has 3 milk feeds a day and we are TTC number 2. Periods came back when he was 6 months old. Sending us both luck and to anyone else trying xx

DramaAlpaca · 26/06/2021 22:19

I did, I conceived when DS1 was 7 months. My periods had come back at 4 months though, despite ebf, so I knew I was ovulating.

From reading threads on here I gather there's a huge range of normal. Some women have to stop breastfeeding altogether to be able to conceive, while others get their periods back quickly.

dottydally · 26/06/2021 22:20

Yes! Almost 39 weeks with #2. Fell pregnant when #1 was 10 months old and bf. Continued to bf until 15 months. My periods never came back in between!

Horehound · 26/06/2021 22:24

Yes I did!
I was feeding my son before bed and once or twice in the night. I gave birth to him aug 2019 and had one period Dec 2020 and another one on Feb 2021. I was using those opk sticks and saw my ovulation in Feb. We dtd a few times over the days and then 6-8 days later I had what I thought was a faint line on test but then bled. Had negative tests. I then continued to do opks and for a second ovulation surge in Feb. Dtd once and that was it! Couldn't believe it.
I think using the opks really helped.

ShinyGreenElephant · 26/06/2021 22:27

I got my periods back when Dd2 was 18m old and I night weaned. Got pregnant 6 weeks later and now feeding her and her baby sister.

Candlecandlesss · 26/06/2021 22:28

Kellymom has some good information on it. There's a very small percentage of women who it will impossible to conceive whilst breastfeed. But this is rare.

MrsJVJ · 26/06/2021 22:31

Bf my 25 month old and 8 weeks with #2. Only difference being that my periods returned around 7 months pp. We feel to sleep, overnight 2-3 times and on waking every day then at nap times on my days off. Good luck

Ps be prepared for the most excruciating latch of your life if you do concieve whilst bf

Garman · 26/06/2021 22:32

Yes I conceived 4 times while breastfeeding, 2 mc 2 pregnancies.

firsttimemummy321 · 27/06/2021 06:04

@MrsJVJ when did the bad latch happen? 😳

firsttimemummy321 · 27/06/2021 06:04

@MrsJVJ also congratulations :)

SparklieBub · 27/06/2021 06:41

I got a period at 14m, after DD sttn for the first time ever for a few nights in a row (a one off miracle, didn’t happen again till the next year! 😭). Anyhow my period then returned for good at 17m pp, after we had night weaned at 16m after which I basically fed her once a day in the morning only. We began ttc but in hindsight I don’t think I was actually fertile till 20m pp when I dropped that last morning feed. I just felt very different / hormonal / sexual after that so I guess I’m one of those who just can’t conceive at all while bf.
Wishing you lots of luck @Shak19 and don’t despair even if it doesn’t work right away. I remember getting a bit upset each month but in the end it took 6m of ttc so it wasn’t an eternity! 💜

FTEngineerM · 27/06/2021 06:49
@MrsJVJ when did the bad latch happen? 😳
I don’t think it’s necessarily ’bad latch’ just the hormones affecting your nipples and making them more sensitive.

The feeling for me was absolute hell, it was grotesque to have DC tweaking at my nipple in the first trimester. Stopped not long after.

DaisyWaldron · 27/06/2021 06:51

Yes, but my periods came back at a time when DD was 9 months old and feeding pretty much every 2 hours.

2021lady · 27/06/2021 06:56

Thanks everyone for your replies. I guess it's different for everyone. We are basically down to only 1 feed a day sometimes no feeds so will just see how we get on! She night weaned at 8 months and I was sure my periods would come back then but hope 🙈

MrsJVJ · 27/06/2021 17:29

Yeah his latch hasn't changed but my tolerance has changed massively 🤣 it was around the time I missed my period when it started. Similar to when he was a newborn and the first 15 ish seconds of the feed were eye wateringly toe curling agony. Thankfully we can talk about it now and he says "very gentle mummy no biting or squeezing". Hoping he will self wean in the pregnancy as I'm not sure tandem feeding is for me

firsttimemummy321 · 28/06/2021 06:17

@MrsJVJ that makes sense 🙈 I hope it stops soon! The last few days I'd noticed similar and just got a super faint line 🤞🏻 this ones sticky after several early losses

mumsophia7 · 11/07/2021 09:30

I'm currently TTC, while still breastfeeding (2 big feeds a day). With my first, we got pregnant on cycle 1. DTD Every other day. This is currently cycle 2 trying for baby 2, and I did a test today ... negative! So it's onto cycle 3. I'm unsure if breastfeeding is affecting our chances. Good luck everyone x
