Bfp and spotting

Hey ladies sorry in advance for the long post
I've been feeling sick and throwing up since around Friday. I did a free yesterday at 12dpo and got a faint line. I took one this morning which was still faint. I held my wee for around 5 hours and took another at 1pm which came up darker. Around 10 minutes ago I had a few cramps and when I went to the toilet I had some brown spotting but not much (sorry of tmi). Af isn't due until Thursday. Could the spotting be a bad sign since af is meant to be 2 days away
Thank you for any help or advice x

Hi! How certain are you of your ovulation date - I'm only asking as your 13dpo test looks more like a 9dpo line. It's still looking good though in terms of it being stronger than the day before!

Unless your lines are getting weaker I wouldn't worry about spotting. It's common for weeks during the first trimester as implantation isn't a one day thing - the embryo carries on settling in for weeks :)

Laurens96 · 07/06/2021 14:20

I'm not entirely sure as I don't track ovulation. The ovulation date I'm going by is based on my flo app but my periods aren't entirely regular they range between 30-36 days. On a 30 day cycle af is due on Thursday. I used a tampon and there was no blood but again had like a brown discharge when I wiped. I'm feeling slightly anxious as I had a miscarriage 2 years ago at 11 weeks 3 days but then had twin girls after that loss x

I also took a clerablue but thats still quite faint I think x

I agree with Juno321, it's a bit weak for 13 DPO but it may just be that you aren't as many days passed as you think since you don't track ovulation. I've attached what my FRER looked like at 14 DPO (confirmed DPO by BBT). It will get a lot darker in just a couple of days if implantation is happening as it should 🤞 I also had spotting at 6 weeks so you can definitely spot in the first few weeks of pregnancy and it's normal. Hope it works out for you!

If it’s any comfort, I had this - quite s lot of brown spotting, was very upset.
He will be 23 on Friday!
Good luck! x

Hey, I spotted also for afew days with my LO! It can be very common

Laurens96 · 07/06/2021 19:11

Can it be common for it to go from brown to dark red? I never had it with my pregnancy with my twins. I had bleeding in my first pregnancy and I lost that baby at 11 weeks. Af isn't due till Thursday this week tho x

Moonshine11 · 07/06/2021 19:13

How much red is there?

Greenrubber · 07/06/2021 19:20

Try not to worry too much about the spotting
Unfortunately if it is a misscarige there isn't anything you can do about it
But hopefully all is well I did have brown spotting which turned to dark red when I miscarried twice but I spoke to so many people at the time who had spotting and went on to have a healthy pregnancy so it really is 50/50
Stay positive and do a test in a few days see if the line darkens 🤞

Laurens96 · 07/06/2021 19:24

Its a little dark red mixed into the brown at the moment literally just a smear on a pad a little more then spotting but not quite a light flow x

I don't understand why anyone said the line isn't dark enough for 12dpo. You can have implantation at 12dpo and wouldn't get a positive by then. Just because most implantation happen at 9dpo doesn't mean it's the same for all.
Also, I don't know if it's 'normal' but I'm spotting since 15dpo, when I got my BFP. That was 9 days ago and it varies from light brown to dark red. My ob/gyn told me to take a high dosage of magnesium and rest as much as possible. My hcg levels on Thursday were within range, so there's that.

Moonshine11 · 07/06/2021 19:54

As long as it’s a tiny amount you should be fine!

Laurens96 · 07/06/2021 20:34

@Bundaberg84 the line is very similar to the one one I got when I was pregnant with twins and that one was 2 days after af was due so I thought it was quite a decent line for 2 days early x

The top photo is todays test. The bottom photo is 2 days after af was due with twins which is why I thought it was a good line x

I'm 24+2 today. My 3rd pregnancy but 2nd was ectopic which I naturally miscarried...

I spotted in my first trimester in my first pregnancy but nothing really thereafter and our son just turned 3.

With my ectopic I spotted for 2 days and day 3 was about half a teaspoon then got worse til the embryo passed fully. I was also quite unwell during the process.

This time I still have spotting of red blood now but baby is doing well.

What I have learned throughout....

Red blood is fresh blood. Brown is older that may be just clearing from last of implantation. Use only pads (not tampons) as it's far easier to judge how much blood loss there has been.

The blood vessels and muscles etc. in the whole internal area, down there, are swelling and expanding in preparation for baby so anything from sitting down hard to sex can cause them to result in spotting so unless it's more than short spells of spotting of fresh (red) blood I don't worry about.

The fact that you're lines are getting darker is a big positive. With my ectopic, after the miscarriage started, the lines slowly got weaker. hCG levels only continue to rise til around 12 weeks so if the lines getting stronger, the levels should be too and as I was less than 4 weeks when I lost the embryo and the lines got fainter it tells me all is still fine for you.

The only other thing you can do is speak to your EPU and keep an eye on things.

Laurens96 · 07/06/2021 22:09

Over the last couple hours had the smallest smear of brown blood on a pad. I honestly thought it was 100% a bad sign till reading a few of the comments here. I still have 3 frer test plus a clear blue 6 days early tests and 2 clear blue with weeks indicator. After the first faint positive yesterday I brought a few different ones to try before feeling discouraged today about the spotting x

Laurens96 · 08/06/2021 11:09

The clearblue 6 days early test came up positive today would it be wishful thinking to try the digital tomorrow? Or is there a chance it will come up positive? X

@Laurens96 hey! I really hope this is a BFP for you and to me it sounds promising 🤞🏼

I took a digital at only 11dpo when my lines were similar to yours and it was positive - I'll attach a photo for reference. If you can afford it, go for it but otherwise keep the digital until the lines go darker or you miss your period... so much easier said than done I know 😂

Laurens96 · 08/06/2021 20:31

Just taken an asda's own test and came up negative. Surely 6 first response and a clearblue couldnt have all been false positives. Might try another first response tomorrow x

Bundaberg84 · 08/06/2021 22:33

How sensitive are those? And did you take it after drinks / water intake?

2020mission · 08/06/2021 23:44

@Laurens96 your tests definitely won't have been false positives, you've maybe had a chemical pregnancy but don't give up hope yet

Laurens96 · 08/06/2021 23:49

I'm not sure how sensitive they are i cant seem to find it on the packet. I'd had a cup of tea maybe an hour before the test x
