Hey so we are on our first ivf journey..unfortunately have has 2 failed iuis. We have egg collection on Saturday morning, its my partner not me.

Just looking to see if anyone has any advice, hints, tips etc for us.

Really feeling positive. There was 15 follicles at the scan yesterday and all apparently measuring well. Trigger tonight then nothing tomorrow...

Hi, my wife and I went through this last year (she’s now pregnant) I would say don’t expect too much regarding follicles and put too much pressure on yourselves regarding how many eggs they may or may not get. It’s REALLY hard not to become obsessed with egg numbers and quantity.

I had my eggs collected (RIVF) the process itself was fine personally but I did find it tough afterwards when the eggs and donor sperm were developing for the five days in the lab and you felt like you were waiting for the most important part really. For us this was tougher than the two week wait. A tip here is don’t be afraid to call the clinic as much as you want or email!

What clinic are you using? Be kind to yourselves, it’s a really tough journey and one hopefully you will have a good result with. Dm me if you wantSmile oh and don’t feel disheartened if you don’t end up with as many eggs as you expect, it really does only take one. Writing this I have realised I can’t even remember now how many were collected so it really does get easier and you become less obsessed although at the time it’s all consuming!

We ended up with three good blastocysts (I’m late 30’s) so it was a good result, I think only 4 eggs fertilised which threw me into a panic. If I knew at the start I would end up with three blastocysts I would have been delighted. It really is out of your control which I know doesn’t help, stay positive and as calm as you both can.

Newchances · 03/06/2021 21:00

Aw congratulations and thank you so much ! The 2 week wait was awful the last time so I am dreading these few days of have we a successful embryo for transfer...

We are doing mindfulness and she will be at acupuncture on Monday.

Did you try any of the old wives tales of pineapple etc

Were you sedated for the egg collection? We didn't realise this until yesterday, don't know how we missed it. We are very fortunate in that this is a nhs try.

OP posts:
Vendeevola · 03/06/2021 21:13

Yes I was sedated, I was really nervous but didn’t need to be. Ours was private but I’m sure it’s similar to nhs. I remember being in the room and having the mask then literally nothing until it was over. It really wasn’t as bad as I thought.

Yes we tried everything! Pomegranate juice is good, it’s anything that improves the blood flow to the womb at this stage I think. We also both took a range of supplements.

I think staying as calm as you can does help too. I know that’s so much easier said though!

Newchances · 03/06/2021 21:25

She has been taken a lot of supplements coq10 and a multivitamin and methfolate.

Must put pomegranate just on the list lol.

Our other 2 iuis were private and so far doesn't seem much of a difference, obviously bar the whole covid thing. We have had so many swabs, don't know if that would be the case In private or not.

OP posts:
Vendeevola · 03/06/2021 21:29

Yeah that’s what I took.

Yes we also had a lot of covid tests. Fingers crossed it will all turn out well for you both and the collection goes well. Be kind to yourselves after as it really is a huge emotional time. We were very lucky in that it worked first time. Star any questions feel free to dm me

Moonshine11 · 03/06/2021 21:35

Hey!
I was bloated and a little tender after egg collection but nothing paracetamol didn’t help!

As pp as hard as it is don’t focus on the number of eggs etc. I know people who have had a successful pregnancy with a 3 day low grade egg and so on! It really does just take one!

I also done the Pom juice!

After egg transfer i had McDonald’s chips! (As famous as the pineapple in the IVF world)
I done the pineapple, more importantly the core and a couple of Brazil nuts a day!
Of course, all myths but I think it’s good for you to know/think you are doing everything you can!

Best of luck to you both

sallievp · 03/06/2021 21:38

Just wanted to wish you all the best. Our son was through IVF. (Mixed sex couple) i think I had 15 follicles too. Keeping everything crossed for you as I know how tough it is.

Newchances · 03/06/2021 21:41

Oh McDonald's chips i hadn't heard this one ?? But we have just decided on McDonald's for lunch Saturday. Thank you so much we don't know what to expect we had our ivf cancelled twice because of covid and and think this time we nearly expected it again and now it's happening!

Hoping we have the same luck as yourself now.

Thanks really appreciate it 🙏

No-one in real life knows, after our first 2 failed attempts we just didn't want anyone known this time or asking questions etc

Yep! Instagram in the IVF community is covered in McDonald’s chips after people have had their transfers 😂🙊 something to do with the salt!

So pleased you are able to go ahead this time, I felt awful for all the couples who’s cycles had been cancelled the past year.
It’s a scary process but exciting to think this could be your time!

sallievp · 03/06/2021 21:47

Same here cause of previous miscarriages we didn't tell anyone until I was 5 months pregnant and couldn't hide it any longer!!

Milkywayqueen · 03/06/2021 21:49

Its a rollercoaster ! We've done three cycles and had two dds from it. We actually did it the same time one of my cousins did it with her wife (same sex couple) They went on to do one round each and both had one dc from it.

Wishing you so much luck xxx
