When my DH did his he had an 'instruction' sheet that gave details of how long to abstein before doing the sample and where he had to take it to (at the hospital) and how quickly (within an hour I think). Is your partner doing the sample at home and taking it in somewhere or doing the sample at the clinic/hospital? I expect it'll be a few days before you get te results either way.

Afterwards (not sure when) DH got sent a copy of the report/printout that is sent to the gp/specialist/whoever requested the test. It showed his results along with a 'normal' range, but no further description. So if you can work it out then you might see if there's a problem or not, but you should have an appointment with whoever requested the test to discuss the results.

When dh had to do his he had to abstain from ejaculating (sorry but I hate that word!!!!!) for something like no longer than five days but no less than 2 days. Hope that makes sense and good luck

DH had to go without for 3 days beforehand (excellent double entendre there, even if I do say so myself )
I'd give the hospital a ring to check.

When you have your meeting about the results, ask about the research that was mentioned in the Guardian a few weeks back. It suggested that the more you use, the more you produce - as opposed to rationing yourself!

"beforehand"

nomoremagnolia · 20/11/2007 21:44

How did it go?

I hope he got on well nightlight type owl!

We had a blardy nightmare getting ours done. DH was told to arrive with a sample produced within the last twenty five minutes at 10am on a certain day. We live twenty five minutes from the hospital so, with military precision, I planned the run, avoiding traffic lights etc. but it didn't exactly go to plan.

9:35 - Went cup in hand to DH and said 'it's time', deeply sexy I know! I was convinced he would spill it so I did the deed and then as instructed put the test tube in a warm place. The only warm place I could think of was atwixt my norks down the front of my bra.
9:39 - we are in the car, DH driving me in passenger seat with spunk infested brassiere!
9:50 - We reach the hospital, I leap out and run full pelt down the corridor, before realising it is the wrong corridor. Find right corridor and run to the lab. Report to desk and am told to sit and wait. Haemotology (blood tests) share the room with pathology so I sit next to old dears waiting for the blood tests. Seeing my red face and nervous dispositions, helpful old lady explains 'don't worry dear, it's only a little prick, then it's all over.'
9:52 - Pathologist finally shows up and goes behind his counter and asks me 'did you produce the sample yourself' I explain DH circling car parks so I can run to lab. He replies that it doesn't matter if you are few minutes over the 25!!!
9:53 - form filled out, the pathologist opens his perspex window (is this to protect me from him or him from drive by spermings?) and asks for the sample, I put one hand on bottom of my jumper and the other down the top to discreetly remove the test tube. The fire alarm goes off. In shock I spin round and pull up my top, flashing to the entire waiting room, not only a very sexy lacy bra - I was hoping to inspire DH's 'boys', but nestled within it, a test tube full of semen. . Fire alarm stops, pathologist takes sample. I leg it.

Incidentally we have a 13 month old so it did work out, turns out some people just take a really long time to get pregnant that's all

Things things we have to go through... I sat in the car on our driveway waiting for DH to fill his pot, then had to drive in rush hour traffic to get it to the hospital - It was quite comical

Ready · 20/11/2007 22:03

the things

nomoremagnolia · 20/11/2007 22:10

whomoved... Brilliant!! Glad it worked out after all that!

theowlwhowasafraidofthedark · 21/11/2007 13:50
