Endometrioma

Hey, I have just found out I have a endometrioma on one of my ovaries, quite small. Everything else looks ok. Can having a endometrioma hinder the chances of conceiving at all?

Hey! did they discover the endometrioma on a scan? If so then it's possible you have endometriosis elsewhere in your pelvis which you won't know about unless you have surgery. As to whether it affects your fertility it's hard to say, I think a lot of the research suggests that a small endometrioma isn't too much to worry about and if it's just one ovary and the other is healthy then things should be ok. But if there is wider spread endo then that can create quite a toxic environment in your pelvis which can affect egg quality.

One thing my doctor suggested was to get an AMH test done (I ordered one from the Superdrug website and did it at home) and that will give you an idea of your egg reserve. I had a small endometrioma and got it removed by an endo specialist. Just be warned there are a lot of doctors and surgeons out there who don't know how to treat endo and endometriomas properly. And having an endometrioma removed in the wrong way can cause more damage to the ovary.

@kittylau44 think you for your response, really helpful. yes it was found on a scan, it is about 2cmx2cm. I have recently had my AMH tested and that came back fine so no concerns there. Thsnk you, I shall bare that in mind!
