I am just about to start IVF again and in the interim my Consultant has put me on metformin to regulate my periods/reduce weight etc ( I have PCOS). Can anyone tell me their own experiences using metformin including weight loss/periods/conception. Thanks in advance.

Hi Ruby, I am currently on the max dose of Metformin. To be honest with you it does take a little getting used to, as you will experience a bad tummy for a little while, but stick with it and try to cut down on fatty meals. This includes milk (i.e. on your cornflakes!) and chocolate! When I started last year I went from having 1 or 2 periods a year to having 3 cycles about 40 days apart which was great. I then lost my way and didn't take the Met regularly. I have been back on it now for about 5 months and it has taken me a long time to get up to 6 tabs a day. I had a full 12 month cycle and have just had a 40 day cycle. Still no pregnancy (but then I have PCOS too and am very heavy). Weight loss for me was about a stone intially and then I levelled off.

Good luck and stick with it!
