Why can't I take these vitamins?

Hiya I'm TTC first baby, and take these every day as trying to grow healthier nails. I didn't realise but saw that there's a advisory on the bottle saying "Do not take this product if you are pregnant or likely to become pregnant."

These are the vitamins- www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/pretty-gorgeous-hair-gummies-60037967

I'll stop taking them if I shouldn't, but i don't understand why I can't take them when they're just vitamins? It even has folic acid.

@Lizzyblue I think it will be because they contain vitamin A. The NHS website advises to avoid supplements containing vitamin A during pregnancy.

I would assume it's because they contain vitamin A which you shouldn't have too much of when pregnant as it can damage the baby

Morning, it is believed that too much vitamin a can harm an unborn baby. The nhs advice those who a pregnant to avoid supplements containing vitamin a, if you check a pack of ‘pregnancy’ vitamins (pregnacare etc) they never contain any vitamin a. I hope that makes sense Smile

Look up Vitamin A and the damage it can do in pregnancy.

MyHusbandTheIdiot · 23/05/2021 07:29

I would assume it’s the (relatively small) vitamin A content - theoretical risk of congenital abnormalities as found in rat studies when given at very high doses, if I recall correctly. Therefore there’s a blanket ‘no vitamin A’ thing when it comes to pregnancy vitamins.

Oh okay I didn't realise that, thank you!! I'll stop them
