Feeling a bit down in the dumps after AF turned up at the end of cycle 4. I know it's not a long time to try for, I know. Apparently up to a year is perfectly normal. But it's just so hard getting your hopes up to then get a big AF-shaped slap in the face.

How long did it take you to get your BFP when trying for your first baby?

13 months here. Then tried unsuccessfully for 2+ yrs for a second.

DumpedByText · 20/05/2021 16:22

4 years, and 5 cycles of IVF, worth it though 😊

pizzaobsessed · 20/05/2021 19:22

Thank you all for replying, it's really helped put it in perspective for me

Dc1 was a surprise, 3 years ago.

Now TTC number 2 since September and no joy, so I guess it’s totally random.

girlmama32 · 20/05/2021 23:58

We actually only conceived when I stopped overthinking it and actually trying, I obsessed for about 9 months then I decided I'd just let it go and see what happened and the next cycle I was pregnant. I didn't realise how much stressing about it would affect being able to conceive.

GintyMcGinty · 20/05/2021 23:58

4 years

Loops01 · 21/05/2021 06:32

Cycle 4 was the worst for me. Lost all the optimism and it no longer became fun or easy! Currently cycle 10 and never had any sign of a positive. No known issues and bloods all fine and DHs SA is above average so 🤷‍♀️

pizzaobsessed · 21/05/2021 09:24

@girlmama32 I totally see the logic in that, it's just hard to let go. It was easier with cycles 2 and 3 as I was almost pissed off getting AF and I found it easier to feel like that than feel sad.
But I definitely think there's a lot of benefit in just relaxing so I think I'll satisfy myself that I'm ovulating this next cycle and then stop tracking.
Thank you for sharing and congratulations!

DD 5 years and a round of IVF unexplained infertility, currently 35 weeks with a surprise conceived 18 months after DD birth, we didn't use birth control as didn't think we needed to and were gearing up for more treatment.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 21/05/2021 09:36

@Dollywilde

Cycle 9, 10 months all in. I was worried as if basically convinced myself that you either fall pregnant in the first 3 months or you wind up taking years and needing fertility treatment but there’s plenty of us in the 3 - 12 cycles window who got our BFPs. Be kind to yourself but try not to get too disheartened, my cycle 4 AF turned up the day before our wedding anniversary and I really let it spoil the day. Was in my third trimester by the time our anniversary rocked around again!
I worried about the same thing as it does seem like most people fall pregnant in the first couple of months. As it happens it took 3 years and IVF to get pregnant with DD1. DD2 was a much wanted surprise! So basically, you just never know. Get the timing right and try not to worry too much yet! It can also take a while for the body to get into a rhythm after the pill etc. Good luck!

18 months and counting!

ChrisWitlessPatrickUnbalanced · 21/05/2021 09:48

@Peachypips78

Nearly a year. DS2 was first time!

Same.

Thankyou, good luck to you! Hope you get your positive soon Smile

Pretty much bang on a year which was 14 cycles for us. We were absolutely convinced something was wrong!

LondonladyTTC · 21/05/2021 14:23

I'm on cycle 16 TTC number 1. I do remember feeling really down at the 4 month mark though so totally feel for you. I stupidly expected it to happen quickly!

polkadotpixie · 21/05/2021 16:28

11 cycles. Just started TTC #2 and hoping it's quicker this time!

Mattieandmummy · 21/05/2021 18:27

First time but turned out to be a partial molar pregnancy, second time again immediately which was a lovely pregnancy but horrific, horrific birth and it took 2.5 years before we were brave enough to try again. Third try again immediately but again a miscarriage. Fourth try and this is the first month of trying so we shall see.

Everyone is different, some people just pop them out and others have a longer more difficult journey.

Juno231 · 21/05/2021 18:43

@LondonladyTTC I'm in London too and on cycle 18 :) Have you gotten the ball rolling on investigations yet?

24GinDrinkingOnceTheKidsInBed · 21/05/2021 18:44

7 months, at 22 years old for and healthy.

It got me down too OP but hang in there!

Currently on cycle 5 of DC2

RevolvingPivot · 21/05/2021 18:46

2 months I think. She's 11 so it's quite a while ago.

Silly question but how can you tell it took 2 weeks to get pregnant?

DramaAlpaca · 21/05/2021 18:46

Eleven months. Was just starting to think about seeking help when it happened.

Then first time of trying with DC2, and four months with DC3.

RogueV · 21/05/2021 18:47

DC1 - 19 months
DC2 - 9 months
DC3 - 2 months

MrsB2019x · 21/05/2021 18:50

It took us from October 2019 - December 2020, we had an ectopic pregnancy in April 2020 though

Callingallskeletons · 21/05/2021 18:52

18 months

AhaShakeHeartbreak12 · 21/05/2021 18:53

3 years and 2 rounds of ivf to have DS1

Something must've kickstarted in DH sperm because 8 months later we fell pregnant naturally, unfortunately that pregnancy wasn't meant to be but 5 months later we conceived naturally again.

Ds2 (due august) Smile

TTC was the hardest journey I've ever been on. I wish I'd been kinder to myself and relaxed more but it's easier said than done.

Good luck op Thanks
