My cycle is 27-30 days and in past I have missed my window as I tend to ovulate soon after my peak and have missed it as it's so short.
When should I being testing?
I'm cd 8 now.
Do I do mornings/ afternoons or both. Some ppl say test in am and some pm but my peak seems to only be for 12 hours at most.

Have you ever tested everyday from first day after period ends to just before the next is due? My second month using opks I did this so I had a good month full of data. Now after a few more months (not testing every day though) I know I ovulate between cd13 and cd17, so tend to start testing around cd11/12 until I have my peak.

Also I have very low LH levels right up until my peak, it's frustrating as you don't get much warning! So now I have a better idea of the window, I just try to make sure dp and I dtd leading up to and in that window

If you're testing with strips then test twice a day (morning and afternoon/early evening), between 10am - 8pm. If you're testing with a digital then you test once with FMU x

This is what I did last time I tried but I found that if I ovulated overnight or late evening I was missing it with digits. I think I'll use Amazon specials twice a day until peak and confirm with digi

I used to test 4x per day with cheapies from after period finished.

I have a very quick peak! I usually test twice a day, around 11-12 and then again 4-6pm. My morning test can be low (barely a line) then come 4pm it's very dark. I sometimes test for a third time around 6-8pm and it's usually low again. I then ovulate within 12 hours as I track BBT and get a temp rise the following morning. My cycles range from 27-36 days so can ovulate anywhere CD12-CD20. Not very helpful when planning to DTD.

I test first thing, if low, I don't bother again that day. If I get a high-ish reading, then I test again at 11 and then at about 2, sometimes then again in the evening. But I have an irritatingly long surge.

If you have a short LH phase then I'd get bucket loads of cheapies and be testing multiple times a day.
