Bleeding after Mirena removal.

I had my Mirena coil removed 2 days ago. I always had periods during the 3 years I had it in. My last period was 2 weeks ago. I started bleeding a little last night and now it's quite heavy like a period. Is this just a side effect of having Mirena removed or is it another period?

It could be a bit of both. There is often a bit of trauma to the Cervix as the Mirena Coil is Extracted, due to the delicate lining that’s rather like the inside of your nose! It could also be due to the reduction of hormone levels after it has been extracted, and tricking your body into reacting like the start of a Period is due.

It should all clear up fairly soon, but sometimes the first few periods after removal can be slightly heavier than usual whilst you body readjusts to reacting to your own natural hormones alone without any extra added by the Mirena.
