Chemical Pregnancy?

Hi ladies,

Sorry, this is long!

I'm just looking for advice on chemical pregnancy as I think I'm going through this now, although unconfirmed.

I had two positive tests on Thursday and Friday last week after 6 months TTC and was obviously over the moon! My periods are irregular so it would have been early although not until after the day my period mostly shows (29 days).

On Saturday, I took a clear and simple digital test and that came back as 'not pregnant' and I started bleeding shortly after. It was just pink and only when I wiped at first but has been on and off bleeding of pink, red and brown and varying flow. I have had a few small clots too which make me think that I'm no longer pregnant.

The bleeding is very different to my usual cycle as it stops and starts again! It has also mostly been lighter than usual and hasn't soaked a tampon or pad. I have spoken to the midwife and EPU who won't see me until I'm 6 weeks pregnant but my issue is, am I still classed as being pregnant?

I don't know who else to turn to, Has anyone been through similar and can advise?

Thanks x

Hi OP! Sorry for what you're going through, I've been there and it's a horrible situation to be in.

To be honest, it does sound like it's likely to be a chemical pregnancy.
I had a few when TTC and the bleeding I got after was always different to my normal monthly cycle. I also had irregular periods and so found it hard to know if I was testing early or not.

Unfortunately, as there isn't anything EPU can do, it is normal for them not to see you. The first time I tested positive over a few days and it was the following week I started bleeding so phoned them. They told me that as I was less than 6 weeks they wouldn't be able to see anything on a scan and I just needed to wait 2 weeks and take another test, if it was still positive to give them a call. Unfortunately, it was negative.

The waiting is awful but unfortunately there isn't much else you can do.

I'm really sorry, it's heartbreaking when it happens

I'm sorry :( this does sound like a chemical pregnancy. It's how mine was (I've had a few now :( ) there's nothing the dr or anyone can do unfortunately but it might be worth telling your dr it has happened so it's on record so if you do have any more issues you can get seen for it sooner. 🤞🏻 it's a one off for you, my first cp was a few years ago and the following cycle conceived out little one (now 13 months) ❤️

Thank-you both for responding!

I had a feeling it was. I’ve taken another test this morning with FMU and that was negative so I’ve called the Gp and am waiting for a call back now.

Thanks for sharing your experience’s too! I’m at the point now where I just want to try again. Having this means we can get pregnant so hopefully it will happen soon.

Thanks again ladies x

Hi @Jonesymumbum no advice I’m afraid as I had the same in March, my period was abit different with the chemical and quite painful. I told my GP and she was pretty supportive sent me for bloods and a scan at the hospital to see if there was anything going on, it is coming up to the 12 month mark for us though so that may be why she sent me for a scan...Wishing you all the best OP
