Chemical pregnancy bleeding

Hi ladies,

I am currently having a chemical pregnancy and was looking for some advice. I started spotting on Sunday but the bleeding is much heavier today. I haven't contacted EPU as I know they'll just tell me to wait it out.

This morning I passed lots of clots (about the size of my palm). Still bleeding now but not quite as heavy. Does this sound normal? At what point should I be concerned about the amount of bleeding? I've got cramps but they're better today than they have been so not too much pain.

Hi @Herbert1 - So sorry you are going through this. I was in your same situation (early mc at 5.5 weeks) last year in Sept after getting pregnant through IVF. I didn't bleed until week though.

My IVF clinic told me to go to A&E. So did my GP. A&E then transferred me to EPU for monitoring. The reason being, when I got my hcg done it was quite low & I had severe cramps. Both IVF consultant & GP felt it wasn't a viable pregnancy.

The advice to me from EPU was to contact EPU/A&E if the blood, filled 1-2 pads in one hour & if that lasted for 2-3 hours. OR I had unbearable cramps.

I was also told to look out for other symptoms like vomiting, fever, dizziness, sharp pain in shoulder tip etc.

My advice will be to speak to your GP first and see what they say. And if bleeding continues / you aren't able to speak to GP, go to A&E. As a CP/MC patient, you won't have to wait much at A&E.

Thanks for your response. I tried the EPU but they didn't answer. Thankfully it's better this afternoon so hopefully it's mostly done. It was just quite shocking to see the blood tbh and had a little panic! And I'm use to having quite heavy periods!

@Herbert1 - Yes, the EPUs around me take 2-3 days to answer if you are calling for the first time. But once you are a patient with them, they are not bad at comms.
