Positive test after taking provera

I took a pregnancy test before taking provera, which was negative. I'm now 8 days after taking provera (7 day course) and have got a postive pregnancy test today.

I'm really worried the provera will cause me to miscarry, especially as I have been getting cramps (which I know can be just a normal pregnancy symptom but also a miscarriage symptom..). I'm going to phone my GP on Tuesday but just wondered if anyone has any information/advice until then?

Hello - I wouldn't worry too much, as Provera is a form of progesterone (medroxyprogesterone acetate). Your body will be producing lots of natural progesterone at this point anyway. Good idea to speak to your doctor on Tues but definitely not a reason to panic.

Thank you so much for the reassurance 😊

Hi @Plantlady10, was searching the forum as in the same situation as you. Was also concerned as the guidance is to not take Provera during pregnancy due to defects. So whilst happy also have a level of concern! Going to potentially have an early scan once 8 weeks pregnant in 2 weeks.
Wondering how everything is going for you? :)

Hi *@Plantlady10*, was searching the forum as in the same situation as you. Was also concerned as the guidance is to not take Provera during pregnancy due to defects. So whilst happy also have a level of concern! Going to potentially have an early scan once 8 weeks pregnant in 2 weeks. Wondering how everything is going for you? :)
Congrats! Everything seems fine so far thankfully, no sign of any problems. I'm also going for an early private scan when I'll be about 8 weeks - for reassurance and also to help with dating. I mentioned the provera to the midwife when I phoned to arrange my booking in appointment, she wasnt worried but also I don't think she really understood what I was talking about! Hope all is going well with you too Smile

@Plantlady10 Glad to hear it! Fingers crossed for the early scan. I'm not surprised the midwife wasn't really sure what you meant - I'd had IVF with preimplantation genetic screening which meant it was an FET, with multiple different medications to prevent miscarriage, and the poor (and very understanding) midwife did her best to follow but I ended up just writing it all down and adding it to my file as it seemed best...
Congratulations @laurenmay19!
