Ovulation following a miscarriage

I know this question is asked a lot but not so much the specifics. I had a miscarriage 7 days ago, now putting me on CD8, today I finally have an OPK that is close to control but less than 1:1 as had been very positive up until now so presume the HCG is finally minimal enough to not effect my HCG (HPTs have been getting fainter and fainter almost not visible since yesterday so decided to stop and continue with the OPKs instead to monitor when I hit that baseline).

When should I expect to ovulate? Did you have a particularly longer or shorter cycle following a miscarriage? Not sure if to track my LH from today until peak, or if I should hold off as my HCG has only just decreased.. should the day I finally get a negative HPT be my CD1?

thanks in advance for any experience of this!

Sorry to hear about your loss, it's awful.
If you only miscarried 7 days ago, it's unlikely you are truly ovulating right now, but I'm no doctor so it is possible.
With hcg still being in your system even though your pt's are getting fainter, it may still be triggering the positive opk's as they detect a similar hormone.

This is my experience only. I had a miscarriage in late nov. I bled for 7 days like a period, then spotting, then nothing. From day 1 of my miscarriage it took 33 days to get my "true" period. I'm guessing i ovulated but i wasn't tracking so not 100%.
I then counted cd 1 from my first true period since the mc.

Even on cd 1 of my true period i was still getting faint hpt's, so this was over a month after the mc.

My advice to you would be to rest up and maybe consider start counting cd 1 from your next bleed.
I did tons of research after my miscarriage and some said cd is from day 1 of the mc bleed, some said it can't be classed as cd 1 as hcg is still in the system for many women (it was for me). With hormones etc still being all over the place it's hard to know for sure where you are in your cycle so that's why alot of doctor's etc recommended waiting for a true period to begin again. I also read after a mc, once yoir bleeding stops and you have no bleed for 21 days plus, any vleeding after that is considered your period.
Are you still bleeding?

I hope this has helped you.

Hi

I had a miscarriage on 29 March and the bleeding lasted for 7 days. I have still not started my period and no sign of it coming yet. It's only about a day late according to my cycle length. However I feel like it's going to be a longer cycle this month due to hcg still being in my system until around the 3rd April.

I think I did ovulate this month around the 15/16 but who knows really. I've had tender boobs for about 2 weeks now so I think my hormones must be returning to normal.

I can keep you updated on when I start AF if it will help? I was only 6 weeks pregnant though so I don't think it took long for my hcg levels to completely drop. Think it all depends on how far on your pregnancy was.

Just to add, I was told by the nurses and midwife that my cycle won't reset until hcg levels are low enough and that I should expect ovulation a couple of week after that, but not everyone does ovulate after a MC.

The internet often says your CD1 is the first day of bleeding of MC but I don't think technically that's true.

It's just one of those annoying things where we just don't know because it's so different from person to person 😒

After my mc, I had a period about 5 weeks after I started bleeding (bleeding lasted for 3 weeks). My cycles were long afterwards - around 35-38 days and typically mine are 32 days. I am now pregnant again - only 9 weeks and keeping everything crossed all is ok - so the long cycles didn't seem to cause too much of an issue. It took 4 cycles to fall pregnant after the mc.

I imagine you would ovulate two weeks after your negative test as I don't believe you could ovulate if your hcg was high enough to produce a positive test. I got a negative test two weeks after my miscarriage in December and my period started 4weeks after that. I had a negative test after 3 weeks in March and am still waiting for my period. I expect it will be 4weeks from then again. (The difference in test could be down to me being 6weeks and 9weeks so higher levels to begin with, so very early loss may result in a quicker return that a 12 week loss)

Sorry to hear of your losses ladies 😔

@bages1977 your right there, ut is so annoying and people are different so it's not all textbook that things happen in a certain way or time frame.

I was only 7 weeks when i mc but it took ages for my hcg to return to normal, even when i got my proper period after 6 weeks i was still getting faint hpts.

Since my mc I'm sure it's messed with my luteal phase. I'm on #5 now and my shirtes luteal phase was last month only lasting 8 days and my longest has been 11.
I have 5 pregnancies all together but never really tracked so a short luteal could be normal for me but now I'm aware of it I'm thinking "oh shit"

I'll be in my tww tomorrow. Even though this is #5 there has only been this month and last month where I've had sex on fertile days so I've a feeling I've a another few months before I'm successful.
