Hi Everyone ♥️

I'm 30 on Cycle 2 TTC #1
Currently 4DPO

I've been looking for a while to see if there are any threads for Vegans TTC and can't seem to find any.
I've been Vegetarian most of my life and my diet for the past 3 years has been 90% Vegan.

I've read a lot of studies and have seen a load of Natalie Crawford MD (if you don't follow her she's fab) videos on how Plant Based is the most effective diet for TTC so YAY us 🌱

Just wondered if there are any other Vegans on here ?

Have you made any adjustments ?

Do you plan on having a fully vegan pregnancy ?

What Supplements etc do you take ? (I take a Multivitamins & Mineral, a Omega 369 and a Pre Pregnancy Vit)

It'd be really nice to connect and share our journeys 🌱🍆

Interested - is there a difference in a vegan and non-vegans TTC? Shock

@24GinDrinkingOnceTheKidsInBed

I mean not really anything huge.

But a plant based diet has been linked to good fertility.
Also I personally don't take supplements etc that have animal products in, it's advised vegans take B12 because it's harder to get in plants, etc

I'm just interested really as I haven't been pregnant before on if people have come across things etc while being vegan eg. Did their diets change once they conceived 🥰

Ah yes, that does sort of make sense. Especially for health benefits relating to the baby, we need to take a folic acid supplement and this is present mostly in greens like spinach and broccoli.

That said I’m unsure how true it would be to say that being on a plant based diet indefinitely would positively impact your chances of getting pregnant, since a lot of the nutrients we need to have healthy fertility and to keep ourselves healthy while we grow our babies, would be present in both meat and dairy.

I haven’t done a lot of research into this though, but I’m definitely going to look into it more. You’ve raised an excellent point!

I also wonder how many vegans get cravings for non-vegan foods! It must be quite mentally challenging to be faced with an intense pregnancy craving for something that goes completely against your moral views.

@24GinDrinkingOnceTheKidsInBed I had 2 vegan pregnancies. Both with hyperemesis. I craved meat nonstop for the first trimester both times. Possibly a bit longer than that. It was awful - and very weird, because while I craved the taste / texture once I thought about what meat actually is, I felt sick!

I was too sick from the HG to eat much anyway, but I just tried to distract myself or eat tofu if I could manage it. It was a weird situation but thankfully it didn’t last more than a few months each time.

@24GinDrinkingOnceTheKidsInBed
Yes I think it's more "Plant Based" that's better rather than Vegan
But I'm wondering the exact same things.
A friend of mine started eating cheese and fish in pregnancy and before that hadnt for years !

@PippinStar oh wow !
That's so weird isn't it !

Are your children vegan ?

I'm just really curious x

Vegan prior to conception, fully vegan pregnancy and a fully vegan child. Absolutely sailed through my pregnancy, breastfed for 2+ years too.
Child and I are both healthy

PippinStar · 21/04/2021 23:16

@ohhisammi yes, both vegan but also both very young (2 and 7 months) so who knows if they will keep it up! Both healthy, happy, and active.

Hope your ttc journey runs smoothly.
