Temping

Hi ladies,
If this month it's a BFN, I am going to add temping to my opks.
I don't know much about temping, so I wanted to ask how I should go about it.
When in the cycle do you start temping? Is it the day my period comes ?
What temperatures are normal? What patterns should I expect in temp changes?
Any kind of details that would help me would be great.
I'm planning to just use a digital thermometer. It's in celcius if that helps. Will it work?
Thanks so much in advance. ❤️

Hi. Some people finding temping difficult to start with but I've been temping now for 8-9 months and it's become much easier.

  • you need a 2 decimal place thermometer.
  • take temperature orally or vaginally (oral is easier).
  • temp at the same time every day (and I temp every day of my cycle).
  • take your temperature after at least 3-4 hours restful sleep and before you move/get out of bed.

Your looking for a 3 consecutive rise to confirm ovulation (that's higher than the previous 6 temps).
Fertility friend is the easiest and best app for bbt. It will automatically plot ovulation once it detects the 3 day rise.
Your expecting temps to stay risen after ovulation. I have a dip 5-6dpo (due to secondary oestrogen surge). And my temps start falling 2-3 days before AF shows.

I've attached my chart to show you. Hope all this helps x

Previous poster is spot on.

Definitely get a 2 decimal thermometer (it's £10 on amazon) and you don't strictly have to start first day of the cycle in case you've missed that boat now. It does need to early enough into your FP to detect a temp shift for ovulation itself.

If you track CM and or OPKs then plot that into fertility friend as well as it will make it more accurate at pinpointing when ovulation happened.
