It's best not to ask about gender on here, I've seen it many times where people get on their high horse and like to tell others how morally wrong they are to want a particular gender (of course those keyboard warriors are perfect saints in real life).

The Shettles method is the only one that will give you a chance but it's not guaranteed. For a boy have sex on the day of and day after ovulation, not before. Good luck!

NerrSnerr · 18/04/2021 07:19

@BusLaneLady

The Chinese gender chart worked for me as well not that I wanted a boy at the time but it showed that I was going to have a boy.
There is no way of knowing if the Chinese chart worked. It's a 50% chance anyway.
Ttchelp1 · 18/04/2021 09:00

@FirstTimeMumma2021

It really is a 50/50 chance in the majority of cases.

I spent a lot of time looking for fun when TTC but honestly seen multiple Chinese calendars where some said boy and some said girl! In terms of the other methods like Shettles, its all been debunked but because it will have worked for around 50% of people by chance, you'll hear success stories as well.

Expecting our baby boy in just over 4 weeks and all I can tell you is we DTD every 2nd day throughout my whole cycle and every day during ovulation. I also put a pillow under by bum afterwards for at least 10 minutes after and didn't wipe until after the 10 minutes was up lol! Also, have fun with it so it doesn't feel like a chore. I found there was less pressure that way ☺️

Good luck xx

Thanks for your reply. What position did you try in?

Humourless u say? It's meant to be a place people can come to for support and ask questions, not be mocked.. remember that when someone laughs at your questions.. now that is humour the thought of that for me lmao

@Ttchelp1 Can i ask why you'd prefer a boy over a girl?
i have two boys, my husband wanted a girl both times, but obviously he's happy with his lot!
FWIW my sister followed Shettles Method and got a her girl xx

PiccallilliCircus · 18/04/2021 09:16

We wanted a boy. Got a girl. She's fabulous. We had gender disappointment but got over it. It's DH fault, anyway.

@Ttchelp1 no problem ☺️
It varied quite a bit but most of the time would finish with missionary. Again not sure how much truth there is but I read that having an orgasm will help when TTC?! At the time I do remember saying to DH it felt different afterwards, like i felt it lol.
Good luck! X

I had ivf my children were conceived in identical manners. Same egg referral, same Petri dish, same scientist who turned the lights on low and left Barry white on to woo the sperm over. We conceived one boy and one girl. No differences.

Alternatively if you don’t need ivf you could try having sex as per Chinese chart, before ovulation. Doggy style holding a radish in both hands and one up the arse for optimum acidity in the atmosphere. Also works everyone

@Ttchelp1 for both my boys especially boy number 1 we had sex when cervical mucus was clear and thin like egg white so on the evening of ovulation or thereabouts. No leg raising or anything like that. Second boy was similar although I was breastfeeding and just got my periods back and baby was 20 months.
Currently pregnant with a suspected girl and it turns out (when I checked my Ladytimer) we had sex on the day of ovulation and after. I feel that isn't accurate because I had a miscarriage 8 weeks before, just had a proper period 28 days after mc and the next month I got pregnant. So unlike the first two times I'm unsure about this time. Also was very stressed with homeschooling and at work due to covid like everyone else. Best of luck.xx

Thank you for your reply. So for your boys did you just attempt once on the day of ovulation?

Sorry to hear about your mc. Good luck with this pregnancy :)

@Ttchelp1 thanks so much.x So with first boy definitely on the day of ovulation. As we both came back from work and it was fun as it was our first. We had sex that evening and maybe the next. In our case we wanted a January baby so weren't specifically trying for a boy.
There's a 'swaying diet' for boys and girls and I know people that have tried it with mixed results. If you google it and there are loads of theories about weight of mother. Some say slimmer women have boys and women in a diet tend to have a mix or girls. How old are your kids? My neighbor just like me had two boys back to back and waited 4 years and just had a girl. I had two boys with a 2.5 year gap between them. My youngest is 5 and this will be probably be a girl as this pregnancy is so different to the previous two. Enjoy ttc.x

PetraRabbit · 18/04/2021 12:38

Not a bad question. It's interesting and worth a try.

The Shettles method is completely debunked- don't bother with that. Chinese gender charts are fun but not based on anything concrete.

Go and look at genderdreaming.com It's a fascinating site which sets out theories behind their recommendations, and the suggestions also get tweaked according to the success various group members have. Essentially it follows what someone posted above, which is that more girls are born in a famine. The theory as I last read it was that high nutrition, optimum health, high fertility, robust weight, bigger muscles all set you more for a boy. Almost everything that lowers fertility also makes you more likely to have a girl. The typical "girl mum" described on the site is thin, either does a lot of cardio and no weights, or no exercise at all, picks at small amounts of low nutrition food, so a handful of crisps and half a cheese sandwich and "too busy to eat", unlike the typical "boy mum" who takes down three solid meals of salmon, lentils, wholemeal bread, root vegetables, high fat dairy etc. and lifts heavy weights. Statistically older parents have more girls, which ties in with the low fertility point. Obviously skinny women can have boys and weightlifting ones can have girls- its just about moving your chances a bit in one direction. In terms of timing of sex etc they have some more complex suggestions which seem to factor in masturbation in the days before as well as ovulation timing. The site makes it clear that even a perfect "sway" only moves your chances a few percent, say from 50% to 70% which doesn't mean it doesn't work, just that it's not expected to work for each individual even if overall it works for the group. It made logical sense to me as it's known that girl foetuses are stronger so able to withstand poorer conditions, whereas boy ones being more frail need all the advantages to make it.
You are also very very slightly more likely to have a boy anyway because more boys are born.

PetraRabbit · 18/04/2021 12:43

Oh and statistically IVF babies are more often boys.

aliensprig · 18/04/2021 12:44

Does it really matter what kind of genitals your child has?

MarshmallowPink · 18/04/2021 12:48

Eat a diet of plenty: meat, full fat dairy, fish oils etc, not too much exercise. Avoid low blood sugar or sharp drops in blood sugar

TerribleCustomerCervix · 18/04/2021 12:51

@Ellasmummyx1

Just remember for the Chinese chart to use your lunar age and not your normal age. If you google lunar age calculator, that’ll give you your age and that’s the age you need to use Smile
Yes, that could really fuck up its effectiveness Hmm
24GinDrinkingOnceTheKidsInBed · 18/04/2021 12:51

Following. Obviously I know it’s 50/50 chance and everything is a myth, but I’m desperate for a little boy, I’ve got a 15 month old DD but there are just so many girls in the family I’d just love one of each to break it up!

I’ve read that having sex close to or on ovulation increases boy chances as boy sperms are faster but die quicker, while girl sperms are slower and live longer. Or something like that..

LimpyLarry · 18/04/2021 12:54

With kindness, you can't sway it either way, it's chance. With the best will in the world you get what (who!) you get.

Soontobe60 · 18/04/2021 12:57

I was going to say something about wanting to conceive a boy, but words fail me.
Just aim for a healthy baby!

AvaCallanach · 18/04/2021 13:32

Many years ago I read about testosterone levels dropping in older women and leading to a higher chance of women with several boys having a girl. This seemed to have been the case for my grandmother - 5 boys then 2 girls, in that order. I had my final just before I turned 40 and had a girl after 3 boys.

I also read that women with higher acidity in the vaginal environment tend to have girls.

Clearly for some individuals there is a higher likelihood of conceiving a boy or a girl, whereas at a population level it's still mainly approx 50:50.
