TTC while breastfeeding before periods return

Hello! Really hoping to get some advice here please...

I'm 34, my second DS is 14 months, he's been exclusively breastfed (but now obviously drinks and eats other things as well) and my periods still haven't come back.

I breastfeed him around 3 times a day - at around noon, at 8pm right before bedtime and at around 2/3 am when he wakes for his night feed.

My partner & I would really love to have another baby sooner rather than later so I wonder if I should just stop breastfeeding abruptly to perhaps help my periods comeback? What are your experiences with that?

I'd very much appreciate any advice :-)

Mine came back when I stopped the night feeds.

Thank you, Willweeverfindout, I've also now decided to stop the night feeds - first night in and my DS was not impressed to say the least but I'm going to budge :-) Thank you for replying x

He’ll get over it 😂 took me one month with my first and two with my second. Periods were back quick! Good luck 🤞

I literally started a thread about this same thing the other day and funnily enough my first period arrived last night!! The only thing I did was cut out the night feeds for DD (15 months). She still has a feed at lunch time to get her to nap and she still feeds to sleep at 7.30/8.00pm You will be surprised how quick they can come back. I actually though I would be flooding but I'm not up to now!

Hi Mamascoven, thanks so much for replying! We've now done 2 nights without the feed and much like you, only keeping 2 daytime feeds. It's been bearable thus far so I'm definitely going to stick with it. Hopefully my period comes back quickly too as I've been having cramps for a while as well :-)

And thanks again, Willweeverfindout - on our second night with no breastmilk, he settled back much quicker and without a tantrum so fingers crossed it stays that way :-)

I fell pregnant the moment I stopped BF at 16 months, sadly resulted in a loss but shows how good a contraceptive feeding is 😂 good luck x

Thank you, @espressoontap. I've seen quite a few people say they fell pregnant very quickly but it resulted in MS.. :-( Surely, there isn't a link between MS and conceiving while still breastfeeding..? Thank you for your message xx

I fell pregnant whilst breastfeeding my one year old DS-
resulted in another bonny baby son.

Good luck OP

I haven't seen a link in all the reading I've done - I've done a lot. I think miscarriages happen for a variety of reasons. Sorry if I've worried you - please don't stress x
SwordPlay · 15/04/2021 21:22

@mumsiedarlingrevolta- thanks so much for chipping in, that's great to hear :-) Happy for you xx

@espressoontap - yeah, I thought as much - thank you. And no worries, I'm not really stressing, just wondering. There's only so much we can control, and each pregnancy is such a delicate and miraculous dance, it never fails to amaze me when I think about it! xx

Sorry! I mean my periods came back after one month with no night feeds with the first and two with the second. Not that they took 1 & 2 months to get over the lack of night feeds. That took about a night 😂

SwordPlay · 16/04/2021 10:27

Thanks, @Willweeverfindout - i thought that's what you meant :-) Did your LOs not protest much when they didn't get their breastmilk..? And how quickly did they then start sleeping through the night? xx

@SwordPlay pretty quickly tbf. Sent DP in with water and they soon decided that wasn’t worth getting up for. Think the mornings got a bit earlier, but that’s par for the course I suppose. Maybe 6.30 instead of 7.30.

SwordPlay · 16/04/2021 12:01

@Willweeverfindout haha cool, thank you. Yeah, I've been offering water as well, hopefully my DS will do that too :-)
