Anyone over 37 and ttc number 2+?

Just feeling a bit fed up at the moment and wondered if anyone else is in the same boat?

I'm 39 3/4 and ttc no. 3 and have had no luck since Feb this year. Is anyone else over 37 (supposedly when fertility takes it's biggest dip) and wondering if it'll happen?

Wifeof, not TTC, but did, naturally (after having IVF for DD1)when I was 38. I thought the biggest dip was after the age of 40 (altho I bet there are loads of Mners who could prove this wrong too!)

Yep, I'm 38 and TTC No. 2. - have been trying for 6 months. Life has been quite stressful lately ie. selling house, moving into rented, looking for the perfect place without success, new job etc and being diagnosed with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) so feel that odds kind of stacked against me at the moment! Still, you never know - I could be pg now. Will let you know.

I'm expecting my second in Feb when I will be 41. Had first at 38. No problems conceiving either, but fertility is very variable and there is a lot of luck involved. I actually conceived faster second time round (instantly instead after four months!).

motherinferior · 01/11/2004 16:14

It took me six months at 39, I think. Managed at 36 without actually trying

bonym · 01/11/2004 17:11

I conceived no. 2 two mths before by 38th birthday (took us 3 mth), however I had been charting my cycle for 6mths so knew when I was ovulating

dinosaur · 01/11/2004 17:47

I'm not TTC any more, but I conceived my DS3 last year when I was 38 in first month of trying.

Good luck!

am 37 and ttc no 2 - been trying for a while - starting to get a bit sad about it

bunny2 · 01/11/2004 18:13

I conceived #2 2 months before my 38th b'day. I had been trying for over a year before so and in the end sought advice. I was then prescribed clomid and conceived on the 2nd cycle. Good luck.

Hi, I'm 37 and trying to conceive no 2. Had my daughter at 35 after about 9 months of trying, been trying a few months now and just found out today we're not pregnant. Feeling a bit low, especially after a lovely weekend with hubby's family and my sil's new daughter, but cheering myself up as we are off to centerparcs in a fortnight and plan to try there!

Nice to know I'm not alone,

regs, Helen

Wifeof - got pregnant twice at 39, both in 2nd month of trying. 1st one ended in miscarriage . Very surprised at how straightforward it was for me.

cab · 02/11/2004 10:21

Wifeof had given up trying for number 2 (never mind number 3) after trying on and off for 3 years. A few miscarriages down the line and I'm now due early May with dd2. 41 yrs old. Sure it 'happened' a. cos I had given up and b. because went away for a week without dh - think this time away and threatening dh with the snip made the fish more desperate .

Wifeof · 02/11/2004 16:45

Thank-you all for replying, it's good to know that there have been many successes and some still trying like me.

I'm convinced that trying not to get too stressed could be the key so I'm trying that and not posting on the ttc threads as they're far too addictive and turn me into an obsessive beast!

Does anyone know how you tell if you still ov every month (without resorting to kits)?

Thanks

I'm 38 and have been ttc#2 for 2 years, having had 2 m/c in that time. Conceived DS (3.2) 2nd month of trying. I am very, very close to giving up. In fact, this might very possibly be my last month of trying, using the school year of due date as a cut-off. Wifeof, I'm not aware of a way of telling whether you ovulate without using OPKs or Persona. I've been a Persona user for about 14 months - certainly got my money's worth.

bonym · 02/11/2004 22:11

Wife of - you can tell if you're ovulating by your cervical fluid - it gets very stretchy and like egg-white just before you ovulate (sorry to be graphic!). Also if you take your temp. 1st thing every morning, you can tell if you've ovulated as it will go up once you have and stay high until your period. "Taking charge of your fertility"by Toni Weschler is a good book on this subject (well, it helped me conceive without any problems anyway!

Azure · 03/11/2004 08:42

Bonym, I had completely forgotten about mucus and temping - shows I'm not following the ttc threads that much at the moment. CD14 here and Persona indicated ovulation, so action stations for possibly the last time.

Wifeof · 03/11/2004 09:14

Good luck Azure - maybe this will be the one?

Happy bding !!!!

Wifeof - don't be disheartened. You sound like my friend (39) who was despondent after 6m ttc no.2. The next month she was pregnant and her 8lb bundle of joy duly arrived safely. I had my 4th at 39 (conceived in 1st month of trying).

Wifeof · 17/11/2004 12:21

AF today so

But have taken control and just bought an OPK as next month will possibly be the last.....

My message to anyone dithering about having another one who is nearer 30 than 40 is Go For It - it gets so much harder with age!

Good luck to us all,

Wifeof

Sorry to hear about AF Wifeof . CD28 for me today, but I don't feel very hopeful. I completely agree with your comment about it being more difficult with age. Best of luck for next month.
