Hi, I need some advice. My last period was on 12/3/2021 and we are TTC baby No 2. I had a feeling I pregnant but then started bleeding 4 days before AF expected. The bleeding was bright red and dark brown and lasted for 4 days. This was very unusual for me as my AF normally arrives on time and never early, was also having symptoms, noticeable bright blue veins on breasts, feeling sick and crying over silly things. I assumed I must of had a chemical pregnancy as the bleeding was fairly heavy. Anyhow, I tested on Monday morning 12/4 and got a faint positive, I tested again in the afternoon and the same and again this morning. I would expected that if I had a chemical pregnancy I wouldn't still be getting faint positives. I am now also worried this could be an ectopic pregnancy since the tests are so light. I am 21dpo so would expect a dark test if this was a viable pregnancy. I can't see the doctor until tomorrow so just wondered if anyone had anything like this happen to them and what the outcome was?

Hi, no experience as such here, but I believe that a positive is a positive and you shouldn’t get caught up on the darkness of the line - there are many factors that can influence that, such as levels of hydration and time of day.

Good shout to contact a doctor if you’re worried though, hope you’re ok!

If it’s chemical your HCG levels will be getting lower but will still show as positive until it hits 0. Your best testing every two days.
It is also common to bleed in pregnancy.
You need to get HCG test done.

I don't think you would be getting faint positives now from a chemical pregnancy from 12th March. I have had chemical pregnancies and the lines faded quite fast.

It's more likely that this is your next cycle and a new pregnancy? Did you track ovulation for this cycle?

Thanks your replies! Sorry my post must not have been clear. My bleeding was 7-10 April and my AF was expected on 10 April so if it was a chemical, it's only almost a week ago

@Annannanna - My bleeding was almost a week ago. Would you expect to still be getting faint positives if it was a chemical in your experience?

I'm not sure as it might be different for each person. For me I got a faint line at 13dpo and the line disappeared within a few days. The symptoms also disappeared too once AF arrived. Have your symptoms stopped?

GetDownWithTheCygent · 13/04/2021 18:34

No still have symptoms, blue veins on boobs, bloated, feeling sick on and off.

I had something similar. I also thought it was a chemical pregnancy. The bleeding was so heavy I thought there's no way I can still be pregnant. It then got lighter and carried on for a month. I went to the doctor because I thought surely this is too long for a miscarriage to be going on. Turned out I was still pregnant. My "chemical pregnancy" is now asleep in the sling :D
Every case will be different though. I don't want to give you false hope, but at the same time don't assume the worst just yet.

@TheRuralLife89 Thanks for sharing, I think it's the not knowing really. I've had 3 faint first response tests but negative on clear blue digital & cheap test strips. I know it's because the hcg isn't high enough for the less sensitive tests to detect them. I just find it strange that the hcg isn't rising if I am pregnant. When I was pregnant before I got a clear line on a Frer at 10dpo. If I am pregnant I'm 20/21dpo and getting faint positives. My OPK was positive on CD 11 so it just makes me think it's impossible that it's viable as now it would be CD 31

I am gonna ask the GP for blood tests tomorrow so hopefully I'll find out in a few days!

Just an update in case this helps anyone in the future. I tested again this afternoon and the line is almost gone so I had a chemical pregnancy as suspected. It took a week for the hcg to go down
