Trying for baby No2 but a bit confused about ovulation etc...

Dp and i have decided to try for baby no2. In October i took the last pill in the pack on a Monday and had a bleed on the Thursday until the Sunday.

I know ovulation time is usually two weeks after your period there abouts but i thought maybe because i had come off the pill, ovulation could happen anytime so we started having sex as soon as the bleeding finished.

Last Thursday, exactly two weeks after my period i noticed i had a small amount of blood in my nickers. The same thing happened on Friday and i am confused as to why it happened. It wasn't on going, just a small amount of blood which looked a little bit pink rather than red.

It hasn't happened since Friday but now i am confused and don't know whether to just keep on trying or what?

Forgot to add, i have had tummy cramps too which i think maybe my body adjusting to being off the pill.

Could the blood have something to do with ovulation?

MsSparkler - very spooky as I took my last pill on a Monday in October, started bleeding on the Thursday and it lasted until the Sunday!

I know that is not much use to you and I am afraid I don't know what the bleeding is.

I took my last pill 4 weeks tomorrow and I have had a tiny bit of spotting today and that 'feeling' when you are about to come on - so I guess not this month for me

MsSparkler · 11/11/2007 20:30

It's three weeks tomorrow that i took my last pill. I have had the cramps for a couple of weeks so it could be something to do with the fact i come off the pill.

I think i will just carry on having sex and see if my period comes next week. If i does then i will try again but if it doesn't then i guess i will take a test. Not getting my hopes up though because i know your period can be all over the place when you come off the pill.

A big give away for me though is i get a metalic taste in my mouth when i am pregnant, or i have the last two times.

don't they advise that you wait for a couple of 'normal' cycles before ttc? your last period was a withdrawal bleed not true AF, so think that is why they say wait

ha ha wait bet ya can't - who has enough willpower for that

good luck

ceebee74 · 11/11/2007 20:39

Giggle - I have heard that but don't really see the point of waiting - why come off the pill and then use another form of contraception??

I realise that it can take a couple of months for things to settle down (it took me 3 months last time) but what is the harm in having unprotected sex in those 2 months - you just never know if it may happen!!

ceebee74 · 11/11/2007 20:39

Oh yeah - and what about all those women who miss 1 pill and then get pg - see, it can happen

MsSparkler · 11/11/2007 20:40

I have never had normal periods, they turn up when the feel like it! So i could have one one month then not see another one for 6 months!

So i guess for me either way is as confusing as eachother!

i'm with you ceebee - just thought i would pass on what i'd heard...
ha ha wouldn't have waited either
usually rules i don't see the point of, are obv blamed on "made by a man". bet that one wasn't tho

sambrads · 12/11/2007 11:28

well i am trying for my second and was never on the pill and nothing is happening.!!

i think you should just go for it and see what happens

i think if you really want to get pregnant you cant and when you dont want to it happens does my head in haha

Hi Ms Sparkler,

Re your comment:-
"I know ovulation time is usually two weeks after your period"

No this is not the case at all. Ovulation can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle. It is also quite possible to have periods without ovulating.

I note also that your periods are very irregular; do get this checked out medically as hormonal imbalances are often behind this. It also can stop ovulation from happening. A blood test can be done to see what your hormone levels are like; if this is done the level of LH (luteinising hormone) MUST be compared against that of FSH (follicle stimulation hormone).

I used to read another board a while ago and I remember people getting very excited about spotting possibly being implantation bleeding (i.e. you may be pg). Just a thought.
I know a lot of people who've been pg straight off the pill (my mum was one, twice, and a friend three times!). There is some evidence that you're actually more fertile immediately you come off (see Zita West's book). good luck!
