Hi, me and DH have decided we would like to start trying to conceive our 4th child. DD has just turned 1 and I'm still breastfeeding her and havent had a period yet and would like to carry on breastfeeding her for a little while longer. Have any other mummies been in this position and did you happen to conceive or did you have to stop for it to happen?

There's definitely a chance of it happening but my understanding is that high prolactin interferes with ovulation, so it's far less likely to happen until you start reducing/stopping the BF.

@Mamascoven my little one is 1 as well and we're trying. I ovulated last month but my period arrived at 7dpo 🤦‍♀️ I'm 6dpo today so will see how long it stays away this month 🤞🏻

Are you going to try and track at all to see if you're ovulating?

I had periods but didn't actually ovulate until I gave up bf.

@Juno231 Yes, after reading into it myself it does say a lot about high prolactin levels interfering with ovulation and also that it can cause a short luteal phase which is vital for implantation...

@firsttimemummy321 I think starting to track to see if I'm ovulating is definitely the best place to start, thankyou. I dont think I am though! Had no signs. Good luck with your ttc journey!

@BloodyHellAudrey Thanks for the reply, it's so different for every woman. I will start tracking ovulation and see if there is anything going off lol..

I'm bf and I started doing OPKs once my 10 mo dropped her night feeds. Had 2 months with positive OPKs and first AF last month. Definitely start tracking I certainly know of women who have conceived while bf

I conceived when DS1 was almost 7 months and I was still breastfeeding a lot. My periods came back at 4 months postpartum when I was exclusively breastfeeding, so I knew I was fertile again. The biggest surprise was it happening so quickly, after taking 11 months to conceive DS1.
