EWCM Question - Sorry for TMI

Hey, please read no further if talking about mucus grosses you out... I'm so sorry LOL. I needed to ask though as I'm still trying to learn about my cycle...

I'm brand new to the TTC action and will be starting this cycle but I've been tracking my cycle for years using the Clue app and have learned a bit about my body during this time. Around mid-way through my cycle I usually get what I am assuming is EWCM but I'm unsure? I haven't used birth control for over 10 years and I'm 34 and this will be our first attempt to conceive :)

Soooo the gross question (sorry again)! Basically the first sign is when I go to the bathroom to pee and go to wipe, it's like a slip and slide... like when I wipe it's extremely slippery and I have to wipe four or five times. Without wanting to be totally gross, when I look at the tissue it does appear to be clear and very stretchy but there's so much of it! The first few times it happened I thought I had an infection or something because of the quantity but have come to realise it's a normal part of my cycle and in recent years I seem to have a lot more of it.

I've got the Clearblue digital OPKs to help me learn a bit more about when I ovulate throughout this cycle but was hoping to clear up my confusion about EWCM as I honestly don't really know what I'm looking for Confused

I know my cycle length averages around 30 days so ovulation is likely sometime between CD14 and CD16 so I'm hoping that the OPKs can confirm this but we'll see! :)

Any help for a total newbie is welcome :)

Certainly sounds like EWCM! Some people get it for just one day others get a few days of it. It tends to occur in the days leading up to ovulation and its purpose is to feed and look after sperm (aren't female bodies kind!)
X

I had EWCM for 5 days getting more over the days (first month off the pill) and it was exactly this!

Haha, they're very kind apparently 😂 thank you so much for your reply though. I usually get it for around three days and I guess if I use opks this month and it ties in with my fertile window then that'll help confirm it too! I'm very excited... I've wanted to be a mum since I was in my early twenties but never met the right person. Now we're both really excited to start ttc 😊 x

CM doesn't gross me out one bit, in fact (just a confession right here) I trawled through images on the Internet to compare mine and see what it meant! In my defense though, I had been on the pill for 13 years so any CM was new to me!! Anyway, I get maybe 2 days of EWCM about 3 days before actual ovulation. I was actually missing ovulation day because I thought that the CM signalled ovulation until I started using OPKs and realised my EWCM days were fairly low for LH in comparison to actual ovulation day (when I have no EWCM).

@Bee44 I was the same! Got EWCM on cd12 this month but didn't ovulate until cd15 and I think my positive opk was cd13. I can see why people get confused!

I also wish people didn't feel the need to apologise for talking about cervical mucus, it's great stuff and tells us so much about the health of our bodies and our fertility 🙌 more CM chat please! 😄
